Youri Tielemans

Forgive me but isn’t he practically bang on usually when it comes to stuff like this? Hardly surprising news is it. He’s had one foot out the door for a while now.

....usually whatever he reports is to be taken as gospel!!!

In this window, it seems he has as much knowledge as this forum about what is going on. He does seem to be floundering with his posts and rightfully there are doubts regarding his tweets.

Irrespective of who is posting, I can see Tielemans still being here next season. Arsenal are reported to be interested, but keep signing other midfielders, they have spent £100m so far this summer, if he was so valued, they would have picked him up. That only gives the impression that he will be a rotation option and at his age, you would not see Youri accepting such a situation.

Just let him go now.  Definitely not play him.

His presence is having a negative effect on the club, it's reputation and fans.

I wouldn't be surprised if he gets boo'd if he's still around at the start of the season.

....if his presence really was having a negative effect on the team, then it would be a problem!!!

At this moment, it appears that the squad is happy to have him in the fold and there is no animosity it seems.

Did anyone see Ricardo's gaff on the recent club video following him around for the day?

Looked like he was living modestly in a Clarendon park terrace. He could do with one of these new plush gaffs

Sounds like a very sensible bloke, the media bang on about players going for more money because it's a short career and they want to provide for their family but they spend so much of it on mansions and cars. He's clearly living modestly and maximising his savings for him and his family's future while he's still playing because he doesn't know when it will all end.

Rodgers meeting with Youri next week to discuss his future

“There’s no update at all,” Rodgers said on Tielemans’ contract negotiations. “He’s an amazing guy to work with. He’s just rejoined the club (for pre-season) and he’s pretty much the same.

“In training he’s very committed. He’s happy in his work and he’s happy at the club. But naturally with a year in his contract he may feel he has to look at everything for him and his family. But I certainly know he’s committed here while he is here.

I’ll have a good chat with Youri next week to get privately what he’s thinking. But it won’t change, whether he’s leaving or staying for another five years, he’ll still be super committed.”

Asked if the club would accept Tielemans staying for the final 12 months of his deal before departing on a free transfer, Rodgers said: “I’m not sure. For that to happen that means there’s been no acceptable offer or there hasn’t been an offer. That’s the reality."

He can say a lot of silly things but that's a perfect response by Rodgers and makes him look in control of the situation

....you do find some of the African players are very much into sending money back to their immediate family back in Africa as well as charitable causes!!!

Life experiences are so different that it brings with them people with different integrities.

I think the gunners are playing us , this will go one of two ways . They will come in on the last couple of days and offer a cut price and if we take it we will have hope of getting a replacement. Or they will play us along and then say no and wait till next year and pick him up for nothing . Either way we are stuffed

We need to get 45m at least for him from ManU or Arsenal or if he has a great WC around 60m.

Just get the feeling he's going to the same as last season if he stays

If he has a great World Cup, he can talk to every foreign club in January about signing on a free transfer.

Reality is, nothing happens until January. Youri will asses his options. I’d like him to stay, however I can see the likes of a Juventus, Barca or even PSG opting for him in January.

With the free transfer options that will be available, I don’t see him joining Arsenal if this drags out.

Do we not think it's more likely with only a year left and a World Cup in the winter that his ideal scenario is to stay, try and perform in the WC and get interest from the likes of Juve and Barca who love a freebie and sign himself a pre-contract in January.

Seen a number of Arsenal fans claim that the club is leaving him to last because they're confident of getting him for free next summer if they have to.

If he gets back to his best they'll have no chance and if he carries on like last year even they wouldn't want him!

It could be that we’ve told him that we won’t carry on with this situation and it needs sorting within a week.  Arsenal are unable to move within that timescale and we’ve informed yanited that they have a week to come to an agreement with us.

if nothing agreed by next weekend then we don’t sell the player in this window.  And no guarantees to youri about being a regular starter unless he signs a years extension.  we understand he wants to play to protect his Belgian place but our needs are paramount and Lcfc will come first.

of course YT going to a yanited team who then sign FDJ could be a poor call for his international situation.

we need a player who is focussed so informing all parties that we won’t accept any deal beyond the end of July is in our interest.  Of course we could be bluffing but best it’s sorted this month if it’s going to happen.

I see little pressure on Youri at all. There is an offer on the table and that will remain. It gives him a comfortable fall back position if nothing else comes up. Rodgers will not sideline him , he was captain the other day. As usual if he was left out and we played badly , they would be screaming on here to bring him back. We have to face the fact that we are not going to make big money on him and what we need is a return to some consistent form. A top form Youri can make a three or four place difference in the table for us.

I'm not sure the club can tell anyone anything. They can only accept or turn down offers. If the offer's attractive enough, even in the last week of the window, then the club could well accept it.

Running down the clock to try and beat down the price could backfire as a negotiating tactic. A selling club may well decide it's too late in the day, it limits their available options, and would rather a player goes on a free in 12 months time.

There's just loads of factors to consider and trying to force anything can bite you in the arse, through unintended/unforeseen consequences.

Other clubs know we are in an incredibly weak negotiating position on this one. I love Youri but it's annoying that he has put the club in this position and not tried to help us out here (other players like Fofana and even Maguire have signed an extension knowing they will leave before the end of it, but enabling us to get properly recompensed when they do). But from Youri's own point of view this approach makes total sense - he knows that he'll be able to leave by next summer at the latest and the club can do nothing to block that, all whilst ensuring himself bumper wages at his new club.

I don't think the lack of bids so far is due to a lack of interest in signing the player. I think it's because clubs will aim to low ball us even more right at the end of the window. We'll then be left with the choice of taking a nominal fee then or accepting he'll go on a free next summer. My worry is that other players' agents will start taking this approach more and more, which will leave clubs like us who rely at least partly on trading to fund new purchases in a very bad situation.

Interesting he's with the would be second 11. Wonder if Rodgers has just decided there's a group he's prioritising and until he decides what he wants to do then he's not going to start.

I think that may well be it, although it's not like we're lacking senior players in that squad. Castagne is definitely a first-teamer, for example, it could just be worth ensuring there is quality and experience across the two squads.

I hope we have discussed with Youri that we need to look at our future without him if he hasn't decided his future yet though, or still expects to leave this summer. He's a great player, but if he does stay I'd rather we prepare for him not staying first and then have a pleasant surprise if he does stick around.

He’s two weeks behind most with his fitness but I agree that it won’t do any harm to put him with the ‘second’ squad.

I hope so, time to get a bit nasty with a few of them.

As long as Youri is here and fit he will play. If he has a typically good game his critics will stand on their heads. As for the others , that's up to Rodgers , he has choices but results will determine everything.

Hope that's not true. I think the way Daniel ****ing Levy has treated Harry Kane will make other players think twice about trying to help their clubs out.

Shame he’s in the naughty corner. He’s looked quite good in pre-season. Whether that’s due to the quality of the opposition or the pace of the matches, and whether it would translate to the PL I don’t know, but if he won’t sign a contract or move on we have to try to get the best out of him for the time he has left with us.

If he really does run down his contract he will have been a very expensive signing. Depreciating 40m over 4 years costs 200k per week, plus wages :jawdrop:

Has ensured we've had Europe twice and also won us an FA Cup.

Priceless.
