How do you know it was a mistake if you never saw him play? 

 

Maybe he just wasn't actually good enough? 

 

It's pretty desperate to want to see a player play, despite not actually knowing what the reasons are behind him not being picked. 

 

 

Funny how we'll happily trust Rodgers with bringing in or bringing up players like KDH, Thomas, Justin etc but won't trust his judgment that Benkovic probably wasn't up to standard or that there actually were personal reasons behind it...

All I know is Brendan seems to go off players pretty quickly, often on a whim. You only have to look at the examples of Nacho, Praet and Mendy as proof of that. If Benko was released for personal reasons then why don't the club just say that, and that it's a private matter that they won't go into further. Otherwise we are left with the bizarre situation where Rodgers has run down the value of a promising £13m asset to nothing.

As it seems that it's personal issues then it's best for all concerened isn't it really.

 

But hypothetically if it had of been solely down to ability I'd of been keen to see him play an actual game, training well isn't always an indicator of a good player. Taarabt notably used to rarely turn up at QPR but got picked because of his ability when it mattered. 

 

Shame it ultimately didn't work out for him here, think we were all pretty excited when he signed which was then followed up with that impressive Celtic spell.

...they are either looking to build and starting from the back with putting down foundations!!!

 Either that or they have very quickly saw what Benkovic can offer and have moved for cover for their recent acquisition.

Seems strange that Shakespeare and Puel went off him too?

Whilst there's some truth in that, he's suspiciously untrustworthy with Iheanacho who was only played when absolutely forced to, couldn't then be dropped because Nacho kept scoring and was praised by Rodgers media love-in brigade pundits and subsequently became our top scorer. Summer break, then relegated to subs bench again (but can still seemingly score on the rare cameo appearance).

 

Under not trusted for a full game here or even a chance very often but now doing well at Marseille, however, the useless Perez given countless opportunities on the right (oops, a Rodger 30m signing) and was poor every time. Lookman also given far more lightweight failed opportunities/performances on the right as well?

 

Armarty too, not given an opportunity yet Rodgers played Castagne out of position at CB who was totally incompetent at it and then Ndidi which entirely weakened our midfield. Like Iheanacho, when Armarty did get a chance through dire necessity, he was absolutely fine. 

 

Benkovic? Who knows. Seemingly very good at Celtic but suffered injuries but then sent out on ill researched loan opportunities and got no game time, no wonder his mental health went down hill if indeed that's what it was. 

 

I think it's the inconsistencies that leave some people suspicious of Rodgers judgments and motivations at times.
