The two 5th place finishes are worn like a badge of honour, when in all honesty we failed to achieve the achievable and now Rodgers hints an not having the finance to compete. The Champions League is worth £50m we failed twice to retain our position in the league, that is £100m which could have strengthened our squad or made our loans significantly less.

The season is played over 38 games. We were in the top 4 over the first 3/4 of last season (and the season before), but european qualification isn't handed out in March and every match, first till last is just as difficult and the results are only measured after everyone has played 38. Just ask Spurs.

It will be interesting to see how much or little influence Brendan has in the appointment of Congerton’s replacement.
 

At the time he joined the club, it was when Rodgers stock was at its highest and therefore he had significant influence, if there are any doubts about his long term future/commitment or the direction of travel the club is currently in, then the board may see this as a perfect opportunity to wrestle back some control from the manager.
 

make an appointment that doesn’t fit Rodgers preference and it could make for an interesting dynamic or if the club are seriously considering a change then this is an opportunity to make an appointment that engineers a falling out with the hope Brendan walks away or takes an opportunity elsewhere.

At the end of the day we are not a constant top 4 side, attracting big names is and always will be an issue. I think we are looking at another couple of years before we are a side that can be battling for top 4. That is not the managers fault
