Leeds (H) Post-Match Thread

Agreed. We got the rub of the green today and we deserved that for sure. Just what we needed a hard fought win.

Depends where you sit. I wouldnt call it rub of the green. I’d call it proper defending at times with a keeper doing what he needs to do.

Ps. The ref was crap. As revealed by his booking of Forshaw with his first foul but Klich did about six and no booking

Just home so probably repeating what's been said, but a bizarre game in that we battled brilliantly, but had to do so against a Leeds side who made us look very mediocre. I do worry if we're maybe just becoming a mid table side now?

Anyway, back 4 (who finished the match) we're great, as were the other 2 academy boys.

Absolutely brilliant result. Performance wasn't much to write about but we were resolute, which we haven't been much this season. Really impressed with mendy when he came on. As good as wilf is, having someone who can consistently keep the ball in dm makes such a difference. Hopefully we can kick on from here and give the ECL a real go.

Think it was a bit fortunate but we deserved more from the last two home games so maybe that balances out. Really good goal, Schmeichel was excellent and we put a real shift in defensively. Still not convinced by us but we needed a haul of points this week and got them.

The attitude in the past two matches has been much better, a lot of commitment and no hiding. Dewsbury-Hall in particular giving us a real spark at present.

....perhaps the change in defending, leaving zonal marketing and going man-to-man has now allowed Kasper to come for the ball now!!!

The rigid zonal meant that if he came, he would disrupt the set up, but going man-to-man allows him to go anywhere he wants. This is pretty much going back to his old style of keeping, and his early distribution is a great way to attack.

Great point this. Kasper seems more like his 15/16 self in recent games, which had the same setup.

The interesting thing is that in 15/16 Kasper was probably only 7 or 8/10 for the season because Morgan, Huth and Kante made us so solid. There weren’t many games where we single handedly relied on him, only Arsenal away comes to mind.

But the overall defensive setup worked for us and he played his part.

Zonal does have some advantages, specifically it reduces chaos and 50/50s and means when the threat is repelled, it’s easier to transition into an attack. But we look way better with the new setup. As others have said, corners don’t seem as scary any more.

Strange game.

The composure and interplay we started with at the beginning of the game indicated a comfortable win. We failed to score in that period and allowed Leeds to grow into the game.

Second half was just incredibly scrappy. Most of the pressure was because we couldn’t keep hold of the ball. Even at our worst, though, I felt that we only needed to get our game together for a few minutes and we’d be capable of scoring and winning the game. That’s ultimately what happened, but it’s a shame we didn’t add more goals to make the game more comfortable.

I was looking forward to seeing Leeds live as they’re supposed to be a good, attacking, footballing side. All I saw was a hardworking, pressing side, low on quality. The fact we couldn’t get our game together to beat them comfortably is more of an indictment on us and the way we’ve failed to control games this season.

The big positive, though, is that we didn’t crumble like we have been doing. There were some committed, defensive, performances and the win was all that mattered in the end. Even if we didn’t play particularly well.
