Can overthrow a bloody government in less time than we can fill backroom staff positions. Not suggesting Proghozin should replace Rudkin, just some perspective.

He is a mean bastard, might get some results.

It's crazy whatvwe may be witnessing in Russia today/tonight

Putin and Erdogan hold call on Saturday

From CNN's Katharina Krebs and Mick Krever

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday, according to the Turkish President’s office.

During the meeting, the latest developments in Russia were discussed, Erdogan’s office said.

Erdoğan underscored the importance of acting with common sense and said Turkey is ready to do its part to resolve the situation in a peaceful and calm way, as soon as possible.

The Kremlin also confirmed the call, saying that Erdoğan pledged his “full support” with Putin.

“At the initiative of the Turkish side, Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan,” the Kremlin said in a readout.

“The President of Russia informed about the situation in the country in connection with an attempted armed rebellion. The President of the Republic of Turkey expressed full support for the steps taken by the Russian leadership.”

So...

Prigozhin has previously criticised the Russian forces for being too weak in Ukraine and has previously expressed support for the use of tactical nukes.

We're repeatedly being told that this isn't a coup but a challenge to the Russian military. However, if Wagner were to emerge victorious then it can only mean the end of Putin's reign and Prigozhin being heavily involved in whatever new regime is installed.

Erdogan has expressed support for Putin, who was previously supportive towards the Turkish premier during the failed coup in Turkiye in 2016.

So, could we see the extraordinary situation with an exiled Putin seeking refuge in Turkiye, Prigozhin's Russia escalating tensions even further in Ukraine with a willingness to use more extreme tactics - up to and including the use of tactical nuclear weapons - and a potential clash with a NATO country because they're sheltering Russia's former leader?

I get the worry but this is pure fiction. The reality is still that this is crushed and Putin survives (which I think is the best in terms of international security). It could be terminal in terms of Ukraine though. I reckon Putin sues for peace, leaves the Donbass, if they can crush Wagner and negotiates over Crimea.

Turkey could then threaten to unleash the ultimate weapon... and we all know what that is!!

This is also where I'm scratching my head.  On one hand he's said the military are incompetent, they should use tactical nuclear weapons and that he'd win the war more efficiently.  On the other, he's said the justification for it starting was complete bollocks and everyone was misled.  If he does end up in the hot sear (still doubt it), I still can't even guess if this would be better or worse.  Sadly I'm thinking worse as even if Putin remains, he'll be even more paranoid than he was before and christ knows what he'll do.

Didn't Prigozhin say Putin lied about reasons to invade ukraine? Would he go back? Maybe, but he would be a bastard there if he sticks to tactical nukes.

Best option, putins way out of the war with support from turkey and not the rest of nato countries. Seems like turkey is an in betweener right now to find a resolution to wagner.. who knows

Putin is sane. This isn't a madman at the helm. Paranoid, irrational, drunk on power, yes. But sane.

The absolute panic (on both sides, NATO and Russia) when that stray missile landed in Poland to insist it was Ukrainian proves to me that the conflict is never escalating beyond Ukraine
