Cost of living crisis.

That’s interesting and good to know. Almost the opposite in our industry. A contact at another firm was p1ssing himself the other day about how they managed to ‘lure’ someone here from wellington

Check out Greece. It's a real hotbed of degree qualified staff desperate to leave for work. Plus there is a large Greek community in the UK.

Saw a comment of a bakery whose bill has been quoted going up from £19k to £102k a year. Something like £10 for a sourdough, and coffee shops needing to charge £18 for a coffee to break even.

This is just the start. Small businesses go up in smoke. Pubs, restaurants, corner shops, cafes. Livelihoods completely ruined because they can't afford to function. Never mind those who can't pay their bills and have to choose between eating and warmth for their families.

You'd like to think there will be universal outrage over this, that something must be done, or needs to be done. We seem to be weeks away from the destruction of small businesses, business owners, homeowners and small income families. This isn't scaremongering, these are business owners showing real quotes, real people showing real quotes for heating their home.

We've discussed before about people cutting back already in preparation for this, already doing damage to the economy as people save in the hope they can cover the cost. Let's see how it pans out. It's a while away yet but I'd be interested to see the Black Friday and Christmas spending numbers this year.

Fully expecting Liz Beth to announce huge support packages to businesses as soon as she gets in.It will probably be along the lines of giving the magic money tree yet another good shove.Yet more loans, grants and tax cuts that will hardly make a difference either way.So basically booting the can down the road.Again !

I’m talking business help. The general population will get enough help to make it look like she’s done something, but not enough to make a significant difference. She’ll be very pleased with herself though,no doubt

Does anyone know what percentage of our electricity comes from either wind turbines or solar panels?,

It's just that I haven't seen an increase in cost for sun or wind

Its all part of the mix, but if demand goes up the value of all power goes up too.

The pensioner is getting £650 cost of living payment, £500 or £600 winter fuel allowance, £400 energy rebate, and £150 council tax rebate or prepayment meter rebate.  That's £1,800 purely to pay for fuel.  Surely that will help a little?

This creature claimed $20 MILLION from the corrupt aust government... and makes comments like this.

The ONLY reason that people are struggling, is because of people like this and those in government that support him and his ilk.

Problem is we heavily depend on Gas.  Currently 59% of power generation is coming from GAS.  Problem with Wind and solar is that unless you have large scale battery storage it can only do a portion of energy generation especially at times when we use the most electricity.  Nuclear could have helped with that at least until we could build more renewable power plants but governments have dropped the ball for years on that.

Hydro electric resevoirs are the only practicle way of storing electricity in large enough volumes. you pump the water up when there's suplus electricity and release it through trubine generators when demand is high. Maybe if someone had dug a few dozen holes over the last 20 years our wind and solar systems would be of real benefit. Solve the hosepipe crisis as well.

Save food by extending the 3 second rule to 6,7 or even 8 seconds when dropping jam on toast.

You`re welcome.

I knew a mother who felt she had achieved something when she persuaded her son that when he found a sweet on the pavement, he could only eat it if it was wrapped.    The little lad was quite happy to pick up someone else's half-eaten boiled sweet off the footpath and eat it.

Panic over. Get the tin foil out

With this and your new boris kettle you will be fine this winter

Im sure Edwina currie isn’t an actual person. Just a figment of our imagination to laugh at. On a serious I do have foil behind most of the radiators at home, from a company called ‘radflek’ - makes absolutely no noticeable difference

I put them on all the radiators at the last place. I was very excited and waited for the new efficiency and warmth. Also did absolutely nothing.

Looks like the leaks in the press are that the govt will cap the cost of trypical use at £2.5K with the £400 handout remaining, takes ave cost to £2k a year which is much more managable for most. Not sure until when, and to be paid via borrowing. Suspect this will cost more than the furlough scheme
