Boubakary Soumare

Recommended Posts

His performances this season have been well below par. But I think there is a player in there somewhere. Just wish his long range thunder bastard against Spartak Moscow went in instead of hitting the post. However, it often takes foreign players up to 1 whole season to adapt, so let’s not be too harsh on the lad. I will hold fire on judging him till next season I think…

It doesn’t bode well for him. We tend not to stick with players who have stinkers. I think he will be on the out list in the summer.

We often have very long out lists on here and er, nobody leaves. Soumare has got a nice fat contract with us. That of course is the reason he is here, Lille paid him peanuts.

He comes good next season, especially now his mate Wes is back playing

Like others have said you can’t judge him until at least next season.

Be great to see him come good

People here slammed Vards in his first season despite him clearly having talent.

Not those who know the game (even if I don't so myself)

His amazing touch (at pace) was evident from day 1. A rough diamond if ever there was one.

Soumare actually looked OK in pre season  but has been diabolical in real games

We're all willing to give him a chance, and he may well get more opportunities with Ndidi out, but he needs to start showing us something.

So you know better than the scouting team-ok I get it.

Diabolical is strong. He looked good at the beginning and I remember at one point, when Wilf was out, some people even called for him to stay in the team when Wilf was back. Might have been when we beat Man Utd at home and he played really well that day.

He has a lot of good attributes and by his own admission he prefers playing as the deep midfielder, yet often when he has played this season he’s played in a midfield two. Drop him in that deeper role, where tracking runs is less of an issue and he might excel.

The thing is did we spend £20 million on a misfit player when we could have promoted an academy player for nothing. Callum Wright could have done a more than adequate job for us. Spending money for the sake of it is bad policy. Soumaré is obviously talented but so far his contribution has been modest.

Of course I’d love him to be a success but I’m still at a loss as to why his tracking back appears so lethargic when it happens at all. That has to be the first requirement for a player in his position before he’s entitled to any sort of consideration in the team. It doesn’t come down to coaching. He must know what he needs to do in that regard. Hopefully, a good preseason and another year with us will bring out the best in him.

At Lille he always played in a deeper role similar to Tielemans in the 4-2-3-1, next to Benjamin Andre who is a highly rated ball winner in Ligue 1. In this system, Soumare could drift forward when they had possession and use his dribbling to create pre-assists and set up the more creative players to work their magic.

This season Soumare has barely played in that position. Instead he’s been asked to be James Milner and play here, there and everywhere in midfield. Against Brentford he was given KDH’s free role, which isn’t his style at all.

Some players are specialists in one position & I think thats what Soumare is. Put him in the right system and we will see a different player.

I read some of the Athletic interview and by his own admission he said this league is about running and running, I am a fan and I think there is a good player in there. but as fans all we want to see is 100% effort and the way he puts himself about just gives off a bad impression imo, fingers crossed he gets his head down over the summer and can take some inspiration from his mate Wes and he can become an important player for the squad.

He’s simply too big (not fat, muscular)

He’s got to trim down. His position combines strength with speed and he’s all strength.

Ill refer him to our kid 👍

Yeah I agree, he's built a bit like Yaya Touré was, but he was good enough to get away with it and actually had a decent turn of pace when he needed to drive forward

If he wants inspiration then he needs to look no further than KDH with his all energy, get stuck in, never give up attitude and he won't go far wrong.

It's unfortunate that his initials are BS. C'mon lad, prove us wrong.
