GREATEST EVER....LCFC WINGERS

....Lenny Glover was the one that helped to draw me to the club!!!

Top 3

1. Mahrez

2. Glover

3. Guppy

Glover was an exceptional winger. Had he been in a team with serious intentions and not just serious talent, he might have had the rep. which his contemporary Mike Summerbee enjoys amongst us older football aficionados.

Got to be Mahrez, by a country mile.

Yes there's mixed feelings about how he left, but no one can deny what a talent he is and how good he was for us whilst here.

Big fan of Albrighton too. Always puts in 110%. I genuinely think that if we played with a big man up top, he'd have so many assists due to his ability to cross a ball being near perfect.

Weller, Glover and Lynex are the ones that stick out for me. Guppy was Beckhamesque  with his delivery of a ball into the box, but he played mainly as a wing back more than a winger.

Completely agree with that, as regards 'historical' wingers. In recent years, it has to be Mahrez (much as we don't like to think about him now!).

I always think there are some nostalgic blue tinted glasses with Glover. When I used to watch him he only seemed to have about one good game in three or four.

Same with most of the Bloomfield side. We'd go on terrible runs under Bloomfield - pretty sure some of our longest winless runs etc. still stand from the Bloomfield side and most seasons we were either battling relegation or just keeping our head above the relegation fight.

We did have a good season where we finished 7th in 76 but even that season we were draw specialists and didn't score that many but just ground out a lot of 0-0s and 1-1s - we actually only won 13 out of 42 league games that season and finished on a negative goal difference. Almost everyone in that Bloomfield side was very inconsistent and a sort of 1 game in 3 or 1 game in 4 type player - including Weller and Worthington.

When I first started going to Filbert Street, our wingers were Riley and Stringfellow, think Wills had just finished. Then came Billy Hodgson followed a few years later by Farringdon and Glover. All good players. I liked Glover because he did excite the crowd, but he was no world beater,

Lynex deserves a mention, but after that we seemed to be unable to sign real talent (I didn’t really rate knockeart) Then Mahrez came along. In terms of sheer talent, control of the ball and the ability to change a game, we had never had a winger like him. I loved a lot of the old guys, but you can’t take it away from Mahrez, he was and still is a phenomenal talent.

Certainly in his last couple of years here he suffered with a bad injury and didnt play that much, and was never really as good as he had been pre the bad injury.
