Maddison

If kasper does leave then he will be of our wage bill and hopefully use it to offer madders improved contract

And trying to keep up with other teams like that with far greater resources is what’s causing us a few issues.

I think other teams are just misinterpreting the narrative of us wanting to cut our squad numbers.

We have money but we also have 33 players that are of an age were they have to be registered in the squad.

As a club we can't have 8 player sitting draw a wage and not contributing.

Petty sure if we were desperate we would have offload the likes of Praet, Soumare and Vesty for a combine total of 20m and cut 150k of the wage bill.

The fact we have turned down offers for all 3 and holding out for better deals tells me we are not that desperate.

Unlikely to get any better offers, so we are indeed going to have 8 players drawing a wage and not contributing or at best on loan where we contribute most of the pay. If we want rid , we have to lower the transfer fee because the players involved are not going to give up part of their current pay to help us out. They are professionals and not charities.

we won’t sell anyone unless we receive an offer we simply cannot refuse

its pretty late in the window given the season starts next weekend

the message is out there that we’re skint

it’s not as simple as that but it means agents will receive enquiries for our players.  Some will just bat it back, others will use it for gain.

of course the fanbase will react

the club are doing what’s best for the club.

If we sell Maddison to Newcastle, then why are we paying a manager as much as we are. If we take away all tools, are we expecting him to be a miracle worker. We’ve got to make a decision as a club where we want to be.

We can’t keep everyone, we simply don’t have the resources to keep everyone happy, both financially and from a football perspective. Attempting to keep up is what’s getting us in a mess in some respects.

You know it’s been rejected?

Tielemans will likely still be a Leicester player next season - and we’ll be stronger for it. If he leaves, any replacement will be inferior.

I'd rather we got some money now than lose him for nothing and have a season of him half arsing it, especially after the world Cup

It’s a game of poker

we will loan out most of the eight by the end of august - and on slightly better terms than we’ve turned down thus far

We can’t laud the performances of Maddison and Barnes over the last couple of years, moan about them not being in the England squad and then not expect to receive bids for them.

given that we’ve quite publicly said we can’t sign until we sell, I’m surprised it’s taken this long for interest in our best players.

clubs know we play hard ball / demand big fees to sell our top players.

this summer is the best time to test our fortitude

But we definitely shouldn’t be selling to Spurs/Arsenal/Newcastle - since they’re our direct rivals in trying to be the ‘best of the rest’

To me, Maddison is a flawed player and in a vacuum, 50 million is probably a fair value to place on him.  The problem is under Rodgers we're so creatively bereft that without Maddison our attack tends to sputter altogether these days.  You sell him now, late in the window, and don't bring in a dynamic replacement and relegation is suddenly on the table.

Quite depressing tbh.

“Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers is yet to make a significant signing during the current transfer window and needs to raise funds to allow Leicester to comply with Financial Fair Play.”

Too simplistic an interpretation of our situation.

we need to sell to free up squad space and wage budget. or we could just loan out those who we don’t want in the squad later in august and carry on with the seventh best squad in the league

First point. Yes, agree. players should be moved on. However, the 18 goal season midfielder, is certainly not that player. We cannot attract a like for like replacement. Which is fine as even Maddison was built up to this level. The point is, on one hand we are showing the ambition of paying a manager what we are - but surely that ambition has to be matched on the pitch. There’s got to be some contingency in place. This, alongside Fofana is a sale that shouldn’t occur this year.

Second point. I don’t get the point you’re making. Mine was a general point on IF we did.

Utterly ridiculous comment. It’s our ambition that’s partially to blame, keeping players when we’d normally cash in, paying huge salaries above what most clubs our size do, paying for a training ground and ground expansion, paying big money and trying to keep Rodgers when his stock was high.

But you seem to be specifically problematising our ambition? What would you have rather us do the last 3-4 years?

not sign Fofana and Tielemans? Not give good contracts to keep our best players? Not try and improve the infrastructure of the club?

What's your guess?

Maddison is one of the best midfielders in the PL. he’s got some of the best total goal contributions since his debut. The highest of all English midfielders. The season starts in 1 week.

Why should we sell to a direct rival, given all those factors, for anything less than a massive premium? I’d be unhappy to see him go for £80m
