Maddison

Isn't getting shot of Deadwood making room?

I've read multiple reports from multiple sources that say, quite clearly, that the story has legs. If there was no way you were selling, the story would already be over. There must be some signs of encouragement to keep Newcastle interested. Take Diaby for example, we were interested, we made a bid, they told us no and we moved on. Now, we're talking roughly the same figures, both players are highly regarded within and without their club so why did we move on so quickly from him and not from Maddison?

I'm not saying Newcastle are definitely going to get Maddison, or that anyone will. I'm just saying the deal isn't dead, yet.

The manager has been absolutely unequivocal that he will not be sold. Direct and recent quotes. As the previous poster said, he also mocked the bid.

You are pissing in the wind

Tbh, I'm starting to think that if the money was right, they would accept. From what I can see the club have flat out rejected all bids so far - they aren't dishing out any ultimatums, but they're going to see if you're willing to get a lot closer to their valuation. It's not going to get over the line with these low-ball structured offers and I think Newcastle would be mad not to just pay what we're after, given the calibre of player you'd be getting.

Sets a precedent, doesn't it? We have to negotiate hard, otherwise we'll end up having to spend £80m on squad players. Same for you, you have to negotiate hard so people don't have your pants down.

Our managers have done that in the past too. Famously Pardew said, unequivocally, Carroll was not for sale.

You can't spend more than 40m hence your bid being rejected. You won't be back for another.

Maddison is reported to be absolutely gutted he's not playing alongside Chris Wood.

Youre at the limit off ffp and it ain't changing anytime soon. In the meantime enjoy your stunning midfield of Shelvey and longstaff.

Of course Newcastle would "like" to have Maddison in their team, every team in the Premier League would. But it's Newcastle we're talking about here 😂

That's like Leicester trying to sign Mo Salah, not going to happen.

What are you talking about? We could spend a hell of a lot more without falling foul of FFP. Ashley kept us on an even financial footing, which means we've a great deal of wriggle room. That room will get even wrigglier when the new sponsorship deals are ratified.

Then why are you not only bidding laughably shit numbers for one of the best players of last season but also want to stagger said laughably shit numbers into multiple payments?

Not this year mate. Hate to break it to you.

Ffp is getting tighter not looser. Eyes are very much on you as a football club too which means you won't be able to just make up sponsorship deals like the original plan. Why do you think Howe is so frustrated about the perception if you having money? Reality is you can spend just about as much as the rest of the middle tier clubs.

Jesus H. How many times do we have to spell this out?

35m for Carroll was, at a guess, roughly 100m in today's money. This is how the transfer market works. If you want to buy a top quality player AND severely disable a rival in doing so then you are gonna have to pay.

just stick to buying Dwight gayles and Karl darlows, pet.

Theyve read one tweet and think they can spend loads ignoring the hoops they now to jump through. They're a strange bunch who are seemingly incapable of seeing reality. They've signed matt targets ffs - he can't even get in Villas reserves.

Of course we want to keep Maddison but all players have a price tipping point. 80m must be about right. Half this amount is insulting and is clearly a wind up.

Newcastle are late to this party should have been taken over year and years ago like Man C. They’ll be spending massive money on good not top level players.

I did say after having a bit of contact with a few of their fans at the weekend, that they've gone all Billy big bollocks!

In the meantime you can’t magic up sponsorship deals and so your board are embarrassingly trying to buy elite players on the cheap paid over many years. So therefore all of this is moot.

Rome wasn’t built in a day and your owners cannot spend like Man City and Chelsea did due to FFP (unless there is some legal huge sponsorship imminent) therefore the way you’ll get players like Maddison is by recruiting well before the players become established elite premiership players.

Because just because you can afford to spend a lot doesn't mean it's a good idea to do that. Like you could buy a Mars Bar for £50 if you really want to. Also, spreading the cost is just good business. Most clubs do business that way, you lot still owe us £8m for Perez for example.

Shame that their owners seem to have gone all Timmy tiny testicles with their preposterously low bids.

In bonuses he's not going to achieve because he's not going to play much 👍

We're doing that (Bruno), but there's a reason why Newcastle's owners think they can find a compromise for Maddison and with Eales and Ashworth in charge, it's neither naivety or stupidity.
