Maddison

Recommended Posts

"A buy now, pay later fashion, which has put clubs off dealing with them.

For example, the £40m plus bid for Maddison only offered Leicester £20m up front this summer, which was nowhere near attractive enough to the Midlands club to sell one of the key creative players."

from the Telegraph.

Not just why we knocked them back, but why did they think it was worth even making that sort of offer? Something missing from this story, they can't really be that stupid.

When you consider the player Forest signed from Wolves and Newcastle are wanting to eat fillet steak with a ham sandwich budget. What a bunch of no mark time wasting chancers.

Incredible really, expecting to land a player like Maddison for £20m up front and staggered payments. Tell them they can't afford the top shelf but they could probably have a Perez or Praet for that kind of money.

He got 18 goals and 12 assists in all competitions last season with no penalties, phenomenal numbers for a non striker. 25yo old as well so still years left in him, any club would love to have him.

Might be worth looking at madders agent and seeing what relationship he has with newcastle

the oddest bit isnt just the first derisory offer - it’s that they came back with £32m

Just saw this confirmation on News Now.................. I wonder why we knocked them back?

Newcastle United did make a bid for Leicester City star James Maddison – but it was only a £20million initial offer for the England international. Indeed, The Toon only have £20million to spend.

Maddison, 25, was in sensational form for Leicester last season – reminding all just what he is capable of. Clocking up 53 appearances in all competitions, he had a hand in 30 goals. Scoring 18, the England international laid on 12 assists.

That is genuinely insulting.

Maddison is part of the same agency as Trippier and Wood

It's all very similar as to when Roma wanted Riyad for half price and thought we were being awkward.

I think most concluded some time ago (like in the 1970's) that most of these transfer stories are made up bolox to keep fans engaged and betting.

Good fun to speculate and discuss but only a very select few actually know the truth.

Eddie Howe says there is no way he would contemplate letting defensive midfielder Bruno Guimaraes leave Newcastle United for Real Madrid.
Howe said he was building a team to be successful "over the next few years".
He added: "We want to build that squad and enhance the group, not take away our best players."

Yeah but Eddie wot if they come in with a staggered £20m plan offer?

It's bizarre that they'd even consider coming back. You'd assume we've told them they're miles off his valuation and whilst I'm normally pretty pragmatic about the fact our players will want to move on, I honestly can't actually see Madders wanting to go there.

He's a really a smart kid in a footballing sense, he lives and breathes the game, studies it. He going to know it'll take Newcastle years to get to the level where they're competing for Champions League places. By the time they have a squad ready for silverware, he'll probably be in his thirties.

Plus, it's not really like he can use them as a stepping stone. They'll have the financial power to trap him there for the full duration of any contract he signs. It just wouldn't be an intelligent move at all for a guy who is quite obviously, hands down our best player at the moment and is probably good enough to start tempting absolutely elite level clubs if he has another good year this year.

But again, this is just dumb isn't it. I really can't see him wanting to go there. He's probably one good season away from being able to attract interest from the likes of United and Chelsea, Arsenal have already had a sniff, he'd do a job at Spurs.

Newcastle absolutely probably will be up there but you'd have to imagine it'll take them five or six years to get their act together. In the grand scheme of things that's actually not that long, but it's long enough that it's a problem for a guy of Madders age who is literally just about to hit his prime.

So they'll drop €40-50 mill on unproven Paqueta

I genuinely believe even 40-50m aren't enough for Paqueta. He doesn't look out of place with the Brazilian NT, in fact he looks like one of their main stars.
