Luke T Really? Effort couldn’t be questioned but he was totally out of position for the goal and got roasted a couple of times by Elanga.

He was out of position for the goal but was attempting to be positive (he often criticised for not being positive)…. It was the ball that had been loosely given away (KDH?) that was the bigger issue…

it’s strange what people see, but I thought he was pretty solid at the back and was importantly making a real effort to get forward and support….

He was in my top two performers that night

Justin and Tielemans were passengers, Maddison was really off it,  KDH was cr@p first half but redeemed himself a little in the second half,  Vardy had and did nothing and everyone else was pretty average…

Considering he was going against a midfield with Casimiro, Eriksen and Fernandes, I thought he was good.

Yes, I remarked in the post-match thread that ManU had quality all over. We fans shouldn't overlook that. That they didn't click in attack perhaps saved us from a drubbing. We all, Soumare included, did all right considering.

So which runner does he pick when the two have made their movement? He can't mark two players, as I said you missed the point.

You mentioned 2 players in Bruno and Eriksen… I didn’t…

Soumare was wrong side pretty much each time Man Utd attacked first half..

In fact, watch the game back and ask where he was when Bruno pulled out to the right for the goal…

By the time Soumare had reacted Bruno had already received and passed the ball into rashford lol…

as said, absolute no awareness whatsoever …

Justin wasn’t helped by the lob sided set up that overloads the left with Thomas, Barnes and KDH covering a narrow strip on the left side. Maddison given a free reign meant Justin was on his own on the right in the first half. Not only did it give no out ball or attacking options for him, it allowed Sancho free space to attack and quickly Fernandes was pulling into the area too.

I did, because that is what was happening throughout the 1st half and you clearly failed to recognise that. You can't analyse a players performance without looking at the full picture. Slating someone due a lack of understanding isn't very becoming and highlights a real gap in your knowledge.

I thought Soumaré did well last night on the whole but you have a point here. The problem is that he is not a specialist CDM, so he's not going to have the defensive awareness of someone like Ndidi. He's a deep lying 8 in a midfield 3.

Yes good point, he definitely isn't a CDM by trade.  He looks much better picking the ball up deep and bursting forward with his strength, picked a few good passes as well including the one that led to Justin's late blaze over the bar.

He does look less effective when tracking back.

Have we seen him paired with Ndidi in midfield yet?  With a bit more freedom to pick the ball up and take some risks might we see the best of the lad when the old stodgy side to side passing takes hold of our backline?

I think used correctly and with his confidence back he could help to shift momentum in games.

The first attack on the highlights is typical of his awareness and reaction.

Exactly that…wasn’t the only time either..

that was him last season, and it’s still him this season unfortunately..

but, some dont see it..

but he put a tackle in or two 2nd half so it’s ok

not even ‘world  class ‘ movement either from the oppo

Some folk already have their mind made up about Soumare. Thought he was good yesterday and hope he continues to start.

No it’s not about having made any mind up. It’s about watching the game.
Soumare was a complete pedestrian in the first half, followed by an improvement in the second half.

I’ve still yet to see a really imposing performance from him.
I think it’s more likely the other way round. People are trying to find positives in the team and have latched onto Soumare.
Jury’s definitely out for me.

I hope he does come good! Christ, we need someone to!

Was really disappointed with him as a signing and come this season never wanted him anywhere near the team, wanted him gone and was very cynical as to why he hadn't gone.

Credit where credit's due, he was our best player last night.

Evans by a country mile last night. Kept the score down

I thought Soumaré played well. He also was playing with the leash on. There were times that you could see he wanted to drive forward play and it would have been the right thing to do but you can also see that Rodgers had drilled it into him not to play his natural game and stay back. It’s like the inverse of what Rodgers has done with N’Didi. Stop him playing as a destroyer and ask him to be more creative. So many of our players have been given inner obstacles to contend with.

I thought he played well too. I like to see him get a run in the team, which means Ndidi has to sit down.

I also like Nachos to start so for me the next team set up should be:

Ward (though I prefer Iversen)

Castagne Evans Faes Justin (or Justin and Thomas as full backs)

Soumare Tielemans

Maddison Nacho Barnes

Vardy

My thoughts too. Tielemans is just not contributing enough and hasn't for a while. He's also very careless and repeatedly gives the ball away.

Play two proper centre halves, Ndidi for protection just in front and STAY there with Soumare a replacement for Tielemans. Played just in front of a defensive midfielder like his last club and I think he'll start to shine where he's comfortable. He keeps the ball moving, he's accurate and not easily knocked off the ball. He has great potential for me. Just need a manager who can use him properly (like a number of other player).

I’m starting to get quite excited by him, has looked really good in the last couple of games and the more he plays, the better he will get.

A midfield diamond of Maddison Soumare KDH and Tielemans almost has everything- no way should that be at the wrong end of the table.

The reality is, Youri will play regardless of form.

However, the only position he can truly play is in his….watch back extended highlights and like @Rigga has rightfully been saying there are numerous examples of players continuing to run past him (some being his own CM blue shirts).

He’s just too lazy in terms of running back to our box and that can’t be glossed over when we have to somehow fight for our next 3 points.
