Soumare

Recommended Posts

Soumare had a run of games which proved he wasn't up to Prem capability. He looked overweight, slow and lacking in vision.

He might come good, but he placed himself down the pecking order by his apparent limitations. I'd blame the 'selection committee' for exposing him to the toughest test in world football.

All too often there's an impulse to show off a new signing, rather like driving around the neighbourhood in yer new car - only the car gets out-performed.

Only the best players entering the Prem hit it up-and-running first off. Soumare needed integrating gradually. I wouldn't criticise him - it's the unreasonable expectation of management and fans alike which places the player in an invidious position.

Agree with all of this.

In pre-season and some early appearances, he looked very promising - in particular his close control and footwork. It's reasonable to suppose that as you say the pressure and expectation placed upon has been immense - and he simply wasn't ready. KDH has grown and developed within the club, over time. He is a shining example par excellence of an academy product and how to nurture such talent through.

If Soumaré is as you say, that "new car in the neighbourhood" - it has been driven too hard before being run in.

Liverpool are notorious for barely playing their new signings. Konate has been used very sparingly for the first half of the season, Keith was the same before he then had injuries. The difference is the longer players are at Liverpool the better they get at learning how to play for them, with us that's not necessarily the case. If they haven't started well here then it usually leads to failure.

Quality player is Keith

Genuinely one of the best players that we'll ever see grace the shirt. The way he moves across the pitch like a hot knife through butter, just gliding past the opposition is stunning to watch.

Not to mention his technical prowess, we haven't seen such ability since Cambiasso.

On the defensive side of his game, we all know that the opposition players are bricking it when they know they've gotta play against Soumare. You can try to get past this titan of a man, and maybe you will succeed. But he will never give up the chase on getting that ball back, that's a fact. With his industrious engine and burst of pace, nobody has a chance of escaping Soumare's wrath.

I'll always be thankful that the club took a chance on Soumare. It would have been the easy option to go for someone experienced with a bit of nous in controlling the game, but we knew better. Now we've been blessed with one of the best midfielders in the league.

Give the guy a break, if he's had personal issues, then it is commendable of the club to give him time off.  There is a good player in there and I have seen the ability from him, it is just about the application now.  I don't think he was meant to be chucked in at the deep end, so I think it is a bit harsh to expect every player to hit the ground running like Fofana.  If next season he doesn't progress and show more, then the club can start thinking of cutting him adrift or sending him out on loan.

Exactly and look at Thiago now. He clearly needed some additional conditioning and time to adapt to the pace. As for KDH he has been outstanding and his time at Luton was excellent preparation for now. He has grasped his opportunity with both hands and will be relishing the opportunity to get as much game time and top level as experience as possible.

It also helps Liverpool have a set way of playing week in week out, meaning the new players know exactly what they need to work on in training in order to adapt.

With us you dont know if you’re sitting 10 men behind the ball one game, or playing tiki taka possession the next. Soumare has been asked to play as a DM, in Tielemans role and even KDH’s role high up the pitch. It’s ridiculous for anyone to expect any sort of consistency from him being thrown around like that.

Honestly, some of the stuff on this thread is laughable. Why do people try and pretend that they know the ins and outs of the club? Very few do evidently. There are genuine posters who believe that he is refusing to play (this is based on absolutely no evidence).

There has obviously been very little to get excited by so far but lay off the guy. Soumare has moved from France with very few connections and been thrown into a struggling side and been expected to deliver.

Besides, it’s hardly unusual is it? Jorginho and Thiago are two prime examples of players who desperately struggled to become acclimatised to PL football. Look at Thiago last night, he was unreal but it took him about a year and a half to adapt.

I have not lost faith in him just yet.

Mean while the other players have to bust there arses covering a player getting a free ride , he chose his trade either get back to work or cut him lose , KDH is running himself into the ground , and if he pulls up lame what do we do then if the soak doesn’t want to play . I know people have problems but this has dragged on for a long time , time to fix it or cut him lose

The lack of compassion in this statement is phenomenal!

Can you enlighten us as to what his actual problem is that you feel is so insignificant that our club, instead of supporting him should 'cut him loose'?

If you can't, then I'd suggest a bit of caution because it may just be the sort of problem that if you or a relative had to deal with, you'd be whining for a modicum of understanding and some compassionate leave from your employers!

Our owners during their tenure have been known to be supportive of the players e.g. Matty James and his injury problems and now this whatever it may be. Firstly, it's their money, not yours, so they can spend and manage it how they want. Secondly, in an age where people moan about a lack of loyalty to or a mistreatment of employees, why on earth would anyone criticise someone for trying to do the right thing?

The fact is, you don't know what the problem is so it's just hot air.

Very well said. It could be absolutely anything from his own well-being, settling in etc to a family member being seriously ill and being granted compassionate leave.

Whatever it is, and it's personal, therefore none of our business, the club are to be commended for their support. Thankfully, the people who matter there do have the requisite compassion to be supportive.

I remember listening to OpenGoal (Scottish football podcast) where they were interviewing Andy Robertson and he explained exactly this.

Have it on very good authority (Chief scout for another Prem League team) Soumare will be one of the first out in the transfer market and has been offered around already which is why the conversation arose.

Has fallen foul of Brendan due to his attitude, obstinate behaviour, laziness and unwillingness to do as he is asked during training.

Brendan has very much lost his patience with him. (Understatement) apparently.

That’s why Pearson would scout the player and his mentality. What a **** up
