grth2004 Posted 14 July 2022 Share Posted 14 July 2022 I’m finding it extremely shocking how far right the Conservative party has become after listening to some of the bile coming out of people like Braverman and Mogg , my only hope is they clear them out as it looks to me like they are having a massive crisis of identity and are split 50/50 with normality and extremism fighting each other. God help us all if the wrong ones win.
Popular Post Bellend Sebastian Posted 14 July 2022 Popular Post Share Posted 14 July 2022 Which of Penny Mordaunt's eyes do we prefer? The slightly more enthusiastic, jolly and larger left one, or the smaller, more serious right one? Yes, it is in a way very wrong of me to comment on someone's appearance in this manner, but I think you'll find it's completely fine because I quite fancy her, and that my friends is a statement that has a high chance of haunting me forever

Wymsey Posted 14 July 2022 Share Posted 14 July 2022 (edited) Rishi seems the type of individual who would pay for everyone's drinks at a works event, brushes his teeth soon after eating and goes to bed at exactly 22:00. Until this country starts having a healthier relationship with political conversation and dialogue the centre ground will continue to be a silent majority. There's been a few polls that shows Mordaunt obliterating everyone else amongst the membership, next one is Truss. Sunak is actually amongst the lowest, and this was when the full range of candidates were in.
ealingfox Posted 14 July 2022 Share Posted 14 July 2022 Stuck 20 quid on Truss before the first round results came out at 10/3, into 3s now. Bit annoying because it went out to 4/1 when the first round results were announced and I thought about doubling down but bottled it.

Tories think that the furlough scheme caused the current problems. It's the only time over the last 12 years that the welfare state actually did its job so I have 2% of respect for him. Obviously without it then there would've been mass unemployment, poverty and civil unrest but they're not the brightest bunch. Also I think you're a bit right, it would be hilarious if the tories started off with 7/11 candidate being BAME and bragging about it, but then ending with a final two who are white.

Furlough was probably the right thing to do. But you can’t print/borrow and spend hundreds of billions of pounds without causing all the economic problems we’re now facing and will continue to suffer for a year or 3. The war in Ukraine has fanned the fire, and god knows how that will finish up. Seems like msm are now primming us for winter fuel rationing. The economy should be designed to mitigate for events like pandemics/extreme weather events/war. Instead we simply have a system that is all about profit. When the profit stops, everything breaks, or people have to become even more corrupt to solve it (eg. PPE profits). Neo-capitalism breaks societies. And no, pure socialism isn’t the answer. The profit should be reinvested into public services and water, energy and public transport should be nationalised and wages should increase in line with inflation. Profit is what should be taxed, not the average British worker. Edited 15 July 2022 by Lionator 8

Lionator Posted 15 July 2022 Author Share Posted 15 July 2022 If you want an example of how utterly messed up the whole system is, Labour this week pledged to remove charitable status for private schools, which means fee payers will have to pay VAT on top of fees. The VAT gets reinvested into public services, apart from the very rich, how can anybody argue against that? Now google it and look at the media coverage of it, all from the fee payer perspective of how this could be catastrophic for private schools. Whilst I think I agree with the policy, it can be argued that this could lead to scholarships for those from poorer backgrounds being cut by private schools, widening the gap between those who can afford private education and those who can't. Of course that can just be achieved by improving state school standards. Another argument against it is that it would reduce private school numbers, forcing some to close and therefore create more strain on the public sector. It also helps to price out middle class families that cut back on holidays or cars to spend on private education. This will widen the gap further between the middle class and the very rich.
