Premier League 2022/23 Thread

Interesting how low Emery's release clause was.

On another note, if Bournemouth get a win today you'd have to say its looking quite likely that at least 1 or 2 of the promoted sides will stay up this season which has ramifications for many mediocre clubs and we are amongst that lot too.

I hate when they say things like “under the old rules that would’ve been handball” well where does it say in the new rules you can hit the ball with both arms in front of everyone to help assist a goal. Shambles as usual.

It's all football for people who don't care about football. Everybody knows that should be chalked off, both managers, both teams, but some nonsense technicality overrides common sense.

It would have been last season but there was such a fuss made that some goals were ruled out unfairly that they made it scorer only.

Maybe they need to say handball is handball?

Exactly! The guy looks like he did a volleyball technique and the goal stands.

There is no common sense in the premier league especially with these bookworm soft officials!

West Ham benefitting from the strange interpretation of the hand ball rule again ?

Mind you isn’t it just the scorer who gets pulled up for handball now..

but it’s a foul in the build up surely? that’s not brushed his arm, that’s pure foul play

If it it’s a hand/arm and drops to the goal scorer then it’s not allowed.  The contact with hand/arm need not be deliberate if it leads immediately to the goal scoring opportunity - hence my astonishment that bergwijn’s equaliser at our place was allowed to stand last season as docherty killed cags clearance with his arms and it dropped immediately to the scorer.

Good appointment. I don’t think his time at Arsenal was as bad as their fans like to make out. 70 points in his one full season , more than Arteta has achieved, plus a Europa league final.

Friends, the goal Zouma scored was legal due to the recent changes in rules by the Premier League: https://www.premierleague.com/news/2204759

Quote

The second change is on accidental handball in the immediate build-up to a goal.

If an attacking player’s accidental handball immediately precedes another player scoring, the goal will now be awarded, when last season it was likely to have been ruled out.

However, a player will still be penalised if he commits an accidental handball immediately before scoring himself.

Very jealous over villa appointing Emery, really decent appointment

I just the get feeling Emery won't be successful in Premiership as he was elsewhere.

Especially at a team like Aston Villa.

Certainly looks deliberate especially when you see the angle from touchline near corner taker, his arms move towards the goal
