Premier League 2022/23 Thread

Meh - Forest are starting at the bottom of the pile and need to do something to try and stay in the Prem. We are established with players commanding better salaries if buying for free so despite our collective pessimism we are going to hit mid table which is all they would aim for at best. The difference is we will make it, they have 50% chance at best

It's not a huge one, though, is it?

Reverse the roles and we'd be laughing at them. They've come up and strengthened. We appear to, at very best, have stood still.

Would you take their squad over ours?

I am looking forward to a bit of local rivalry , its been quite a few years since we have had that. We are the number one team in the midlands and there to be shot at. First target this coming season is to finish in front of Villa ,Forest and Wolves. Bring it on.

Thats an incredibly high risk signing.

Hes got to be putting in MOTM performances every week otherwise its going to turn toxic real quick.

Cooper will do well to get shot of Forest ASAP

Im not sure its that high risk. Its going to cost them 10m.  Theres not many players you can get for 7m on say 70k, of his quality.  If he's shit and they go down he's off the books. If he's great they extend it by a year.

Its not much more risky then signing Ulloa in complete truth :dunno: It just sounds crazy because of the size of the wage

Exactly.

If he was under contract and cost £10m, you wouldn't raise an eyebrow and you'd still have to pay 100k a week.

Sign him on a free on 200k a week, total cost £10.4m

I really don't see the risk at all.

Absolutely but the two are unrelated.

We can both have an excellent squad and in be financial trouble. The two aren't mutually exclusive - in our case the two are linked.

Not high risk in terms of finances, more the atmosphere. If he's not performing it creates a toxic atmosphere which isn't going to help the team spirit needed for a relegation battle.

Its massively naive in my opinion and requires him to perform to a very high level for it to pay off

Not convinced hes anywhere near good enough or a big enough character to justify being paid probably 5 or 6 times more than his team mates.

That's 10 players they've signed.

Has it ever gone well in the first season when a club signs so many players. Spurs famously struggled when they bought loads of players with the Bale money.

Only team that did ok was Chelsea, but it took a change of manager or two, if I recall correctly.

They had to replace the loanees so it was inevitable to a degree
