Nonetheless, when you have grown adults from Plymouth supporting Manchester United, or Chelsea fans from Ipswich, it's a reflection on how many things have changed the way we support football teams. I get the argument about excessive advertising during tv games, even about not having betting kiosks inside the ground but banning all mention of it completely just seems draconian. People have all sorts of addictions. Alcohol, food, porn, even shopping but we don't restrict everyone based on what a few people struggle to control. We don't limit the number of pints you buy in a pub, the number of fags you get at a supermarket or the amount you spend in Next, Primark or wherever. I have a bet every week because a certain company sends me a free bet on a Friday and it's funded many takeaways. One of her jobs was covering the player lounges and boxes. Some days she went back to the cash office with near on twenty grand in her cash bag. He had commited suicide because of Gambling debts and they were highlighting the dangers of gambling trying to appear all righteous. The first advert after was for Paddy Power. You have some decent guys now working there (including two from the Guardian podcast who were screaming blue when an ex colleague joined a rival pod which was sponsored by a bookmaker). Just so you know everyone in Plymouth is now a Plymouth fan as they are in the papa johns trophy final… after April 2nd they will all be back to supporting any of the “BIG 6” depending on who is flavour of the month…. Man City going on an Asian tour which includes a game in Thailand. Premier League are to host a tournament in the US - six teams - Leeds, Brighton, Newcastle and Chelsea named as possibilities. There are fair weather fans in every sport, in every country. There are also diehards who for whatever reason, choose a team to follow, and follow that team regardless of who is on the roster. When the Redskins played at RFK Stadium, the waitlist for a season ticket was around 20 years. You think that’s because of who played for them? The NY Rangers went 47 years between Stanley Cups, and their tickets at MSG were still impossible to get - and they had no superstars. Dallas Cowboys are worth over 5billion. Tops in the US, but haven’t won a playoff game in around 20 years. You think they’re worth that because of who plays for them? Nope. It’s because they are the most recognized franchise in the US. Im sure there are fans who went to the games during our title winning season, that haven’t watched a game in 6 years. Does that mean you are all like that in the UK? Gambling is like smoking or drinking, we all know it exists, we don't need it to be sold to us. Literally every capable adult in the country by now knows what a bookies or a betting site is. I accept the point that gambling is just a bit of fun for people that aren't addicted, so is drinking, or whatever else. No worries. So let them do it. But you don't need Ray Winstone or Jeff Stelling to remind you to do it, do you? Where as every time they do, an addict is going to get an itch.
