“I don’t understand the potter hype” “What does he bring to the table”

About 5 points more with half the resources and budget by the looks of the table.

There will be some serious egg on faces when Potter gets his big move. He’s been linked to the big jobs in this country for the last 12 months for a reason.

I have a feeling Southampton will sack Hasenhuttl after the season finishes and opt for this guy.

Southampton's new owner is a Serb and they want to create a Red bull style high intensity team  and Niko being a Croatian fits the bill.

Sounds like something someone in Texas would say…

Are people saying Potter again because Brighton had a good result yesterday? They’ve tailed off big time since new year, and I’d be concerned he’s not an upgrade

They play an effective version of what Rodgers has tried to implement, with a fraction of our budget...With significantly more intensity.

They recruit in a style we used to, when we were more successful at it.

The main issue we have with Rodgers, is that were going backwards massively, because he's not progressive thinking.

Signing someone like Bertrand, when Potter went for Cucurella, is completely against our approach before Rodgers arrived.

If Potter has a fraction of our budget, and is working with a weaker squad, but is performing better in the League, how is that not an upgrade?

People labelling Rodgers as a 'Successful' manager has me baffled in all honesty. He has won one FA Cup, and that was here, before us, he wasn't successful in the game, but was overhyped by the Media, and still is.

Hell, in one window Patrick Vieira has recruited better than Rodgers has in about 6 windows combined. (Not that I'm advocating his appointment, just showing how poor Rodgers's recruitment is).

Guehi/Anderson/Olise/Edouard/Gallagher/Mitchell....More progressive and forward thinking than Vestergaard/Bertrand etc.

I'm a recovering compulsive gambler so cannot and will not engage in any betting on this but I'm of the opinion Potter will win absolutely no major honours in this country. He may get a big move eventually but I don't see him being a success, falls short in many areas.

Is main problem is being English and successful English managers are very rare these days.

Did anyone else think Mourinho might have been fluttering his eyelashes a little at Top for a future managerial job with his show of respect before the Roma game?

No lol

This is the best Roma have been for years

If we have a defensive coach, can we have one that is actually good at it lol I definitely. Could definitely see Nuno being in the conversation.

What we've got now is a defensive manager who thinks hes an attacking one, but is shit at both of them.

A manager choice for us is always a gamble, could be a great but could also be a disaster.

Think Top and Rudkin like a good PowerPoint interview presentation so it would be someone who talks a good game.

They only sack him if these last 4 games are a disaster, I'd even say one win probably keeps him. They'd probably stick with him regardless anyway.

I'd be reviewing the defensive coaching before I'd replace Rodgers. Replacement of Toure and addition of a specialist set piece coach would be high on my list of priorities.

....if that deficiency existed at Celtic then he should have been aware!!!

Toure being the fall guy in this scenario is not correct. I do agree that the coaching needs to be looked at but as it is Rodgers own team, then he has the responsibility of their ability being the expertise level that is required. If you are looking to get rid of the coaching staff, then Rodgers also has to go!!!

Yep agreed, yet the much vaunted Potter is still only 5 points ahead having played 2 games more.Really does not come across as a great upgrade to me.

Surely there has to be better options, although I don’t really know who.

With a less talented squad, little financial backing, worse facilities.

He would have better players, organise a better defence so top 6-4 would be realistic, maybe bring on some of our younger players

Re: the Potter kerfuffle, I just think we shouldn't discount the bloke, look what Eddie Howe is achieving at the choppers with more talent and money, whoever we replace the fraud with it will be a gamble, we are never gonna get a truly established elite manager.

I really only posted this to use kerfuffle....
Twice.

"Fraud" is one of those useless phrases football fans throw out there to try and add weight to their hyperbolic opinion.

You cant finish 5th twice and win two cups if youre a "fraud", regardless of how this season has gone.

Its equally bizarre how youre willing to say we will never get a truly established manager when we actually have one who has won domestic leagues and cups, and yet youre willing to gamble on managers who have shown absolutely no signs they will win domestic leagues and cups, other than minor leagues in the case of Eddie Howe.

And how quickly given they have tons of money do you think the Geordie fans will get bored of Eddie Howe? Itll be very fast.

Last English Manager to win the Premier League was Howard Wilkinson in 1991/92 so not a good background if you want to be successful

Graham Potter is a good manager and what he has done this season is obviously better than Rodgers considering the resources available. However, I would be more inclined to judge the 2 over a longer  period and this doesn’t suggest Potter is an upgrade.

You know Brighton spent more than us during the 21/22 season, right?

Brighton’s net spend so far this season £4m.

The previous season it was -£10m

So net profit of £6m over the last two seasons.
