Danny Ward

Has anyone actually tried to search Danny Ward on youtube, Twitter or elsewhere? It's common knowledge now that he is the worst keeper in the league, probably one of the worst keepers to ever start at this level.

this is his first full season as number 1 in many a year; since Huddersfield(unlike Iversen) hes had enough time to prove his capable but its come to the point now which he isnt at all

Iversen deserve a chance now imo

Statistically he played well above his normal average, by having a 62 percent save average today

Which is...?

62 percent of 3 shots on target that didn't result in a goal for Man U?

Or are you being jocular?

Actually it feels quite embarrassing to go from having a world class keeper in Kasper Schmeichel to a keeper that wouldn’t start in league one.

We’ve become a laughing stock…

If you think back to the FT matchday threads from last season and the season before, so many numpties on here wanted KS gone because he didn't come for crosses, his distribution and kicking out of his area was poor.

There was no other real criticism.

He's gone, now look what we have in his place.

He comes for crosses.

Just seen the first goal again. Originally thought Ward had stayed rooted and not come out…..didn’t realise that even worse he was scampering backwards :dunno:

Does he sit with the GK coach in the coming days and explain his logic. When Fernandes plays the through ball he may have thought it could be a 50-50 and worth rushing out for but when he sees it pitch so close to Rashford he changes his mind and stalls his run in fear of being lobbed. But he’s not that far off his line and the adjustment that follows - the scampering back seems a panic reaction with no need or benefit resulting in offering no kind of barrier.

Not only does he scamper back, once he's retreated into position he then takes 3-4 steps to his left hand side to present Rashford with the whole goal to aim at.

First goal was nothing he could really do. Rashford all alone with so much time to pick his spot. He scores that against most keepers.

The second was just horrific positioning and even attempts at a save.

The third everyone else had given up anyway.

The first was also horrific positioning, because he takes 3-4 steps to his left hand side and presents Rashford with the whole goal to aim at.

He still  may not have saved the first but at least he makes it harder for Rashford to score.

I know De Gea is World Class but today summed up why every good team needs a good goalkeeper.

De Gea keeps Man Utd in the game, and that's the difference. We don't have a goalkeeper that will keep us in the game.

I try to be logical on this. Surely upon surely it is nonsense that Rodgers persists with him through stubbornness or dogma or to 'make a point to the board' ....those theories are just too outlandish

There must be a pragmatic either football or personality) attitude reason that Ward appears to be beyond reproach.

I think in one on ones Schmeichel got into opponent's heads where they had to think hard about where to finish. He was aggressive, closing them down and spreading everything to try and stop it.

With Ward they must be so sure that any decent contact should result in a goal. The second goal looks like a keeper in a 5 a side with no gloves trying to avoid getting their hand hurt. The body shape is appalling.

That's the least of our problems at this point. He's a liability. Concedes goals too easily, giving the opponent the lead and a mental boost.
