Danny Ward

Recommended Posts

Genuinely not convinced he's good enough for the championship, let alone the Premier league.   If Iversen isn't ready then we need to buy a goalkeeper in the January window as the top priority.

Wards nerves filter through the whole team during a set piece is frightening to watch.

So unconvincing at times again.

First half he was a second too slow coming out for the ball, good job the player (Johnson maybe) ran it out of play.

Same for the second half, there was one moment in particular where he came half out, leaving him available for the chip, and for him to be easily beaten.

Helped out by a masterclass from the back 4 tonight.

Obviously delighted for him that he got his first clean sheet of the season, but he still looked very nervous and shaky at times in the match. With all due respect, against better opposition those weaknesses will likely be exposed.

Still not good enough for the league.

A CS against the worse side of the league who actually squandered a lot of great chances gifted by him… and his fans are saying he should start in the world cup.

LMAO

Made the saves he needed to and made a couple of good high claims

His poor reading of the game when it comes to coming out for the ball still managed to absolutely scare the crap out of me a few times though

Hopefully takes the confidence from the good saves and clean sheet into Bournemouth

3 saves… only 1 good saves. the others r directly shot at him

caught in no man’s land 3 times really badly

looked better at other moments

nowhere near level of PL keeper, but hopefully bit of confidence will help something

at very least the voodoo every shot oppo has will be a goal is over

bournemouth and crystal palace would score a bunch of goals against us if ward plays like tonighr… forest is a class below everyone

Please for him that he's gotten himself a clean sheet but he is clearly not the right man for us.

Players seemed genuinely chuffed for him which was nice.

The only reason he got a CS is becoz of the poorness of NTF.

Actually in some of the first 7 matches he played better than today.

It's true. It's a position that sets through the teams play.

The way he was so out of his goal for that chance they had in a game we were so comfortable beggared belief.

Iversen no. 1

Pleased for him. Couple of nervy moments but that's totally understandable. Made some decent saves. I'm sure someone will turn up with a stat that his goals conceded per game square root ratio is below the average median of the xGcY whilst totally ignoring the only stat that matters.....

Clean sheet.

CS is not the standard of a good goalkeeper. XG is

If you are playing for an underdog your no. of goals conceded must be high. But The actual goal conceded was 22, but the expected goal conceded is 15. it is -7 for Ward. Worst in the league, leading the second worst by like -3 or -4.

Showing that Ward was expected to keep 7 more goals away this season.

Rob page is not stupid, he can see that Ward was fragile. Thats why hennessey plays

His positioning is just awful, at times I wonder why he’s standing where he’s standing. Some decent saves, but the finishes was awful, most of the shots came directly at him.

Only 3 on target , 1 decent save, 2 easy saves. and he was lucky that the striker missed that 1 on1 LOL he was awful in positioning for that 1 on1. No way he can keep a CS if forest is a bit better.

So all in all, even though 4-0, ward is still below average…. No way Wales would pick him.

It was a good performance by the rest of the team, but Ward looks like a serious weak spot. A decent striker would have put one past him.

Very strange he is still starting. Blind loyalty from BR or is Iverson even worse? If so, we need a new keeper in Jan.

Still looked unconvinced. Was very fortunate for their 1 on 1 in the second half. He was so indecisive, he came out, then went back, then came out again, then he was in the middle of nowhere when the shot came in and a poor finish saved him.

I agree with you. Take saves out of the equation and there were still numerous issues with him. There was a bit where Castagne thought he was coming out but didn’t, and that shows that the defenders don’t really know what he’s going to do and don’t trust him. Additionally he didn’t really offer too much with his feet or distribution so that side of his game isn’t good enough to make up for his deficiencies.

Daniel Iversen might not be the answer either, but Danny Ward definitely isn’t! It’s a matter of when, not if, there’s another clanger.

New keeper is where the focus should have been in the transfer window. Signed bloody Smithies and have never seen the guy! Needed in January more than anything.

The crowd did the right thing last night with a show of support pre match. He needed it.

But for goodness sake, he's gotta go. As previous posters have pointed out, the confusion with castagne, the yes/no/yes and hideous positioning for that 1 on 1. First half a smarter player than the awful Brennan Johnson would've made sure there was contact to win a pen.

Rodgers will hopefully now feel vindicated with his insane persistence with Ward and in his warped psychology, might be flexible enough to drop him now.

Agreed. Two chances for Johnson from memory, which both could have been punished if he had taken a better touch.
