They have only signed him for 1 year, so sounds mildly sensible

£10m loan signing effectively, that’s a lot of money to blow in one go with no saleable asset at the end.

Gamble.

They won’t find a better 10 for that money most likely, but yeah, no resale value

Staying up is worth way more, so a gamble sure as I could easily believe he could be crap, but not a financial risk

If you get the Lingard of West Ham then it's worthwhile but that's a hell of a big if.

From a career point of view for Lingard it really does show his ambition. Chance to challenge at the top with West Ham on 130k or play at Forest for 200k. It's very telling of the man.

I'd have taken on gamble on him straight after his West Ham sting when his confidence was up, but age now not on his side and did sod all last season.

Saying that I think Forest's home form will see them comfortable next season

Plenty of money from the promotion so worth gamble for one year contracts/loans especially if they stay up. Hope they absolutely bomb and do terrible though!

I’d happily finish 16th place next season if the condition was that Forest got relegated 😂

Every transfer is a gamble, Lingard could be the difference between relegation and staying in the prem for Forest if he shows up. Quality on his day.

Of course, but usually you still have an asset to offset the gamble.

What's he likely to achieve at West Ham that he hasn't already at Man Utd?

Dude's pushing 30 in a time-limited career, he should take the cash and secure his future.

Lingard improves there First team for a year for 10 Mill....we've blown millions on players that'll never get close to being good enough to improve us

Good move for them

No need to dredge up Vestergaard on every transfer thread... lol

Willock did it at Newcastle ….. scored

loads on loan, then did nothing once he arrived permanently.

At West Ham, he’d be living in London, looking after his brother / sister. Maybe he didn’t want to uproot them. At Forest, it’s commutable, low risk at 12 months and he’s getting a better weekly wage. Sometimes, we forget football is a job to, that despite being good at it, some players won’t enjoy it and just go through the motions.

On the aside, how many players have played for Leicester, Derby and Forest? Peter Shilton is the only one I could think of.

that’s the confusing part. surely a risk free 3 years at a club pushing for europe is more sensible than 1 year with a bit more upfront cash?

If he flops and they go down, the poor lad will end up playing for everton next year

Gary Charles springs to mind, he also played for both Villa and Brum. I reckon you could come up with quite a few players if you went through the years.

And unless things have drastically changed at Everton, he'll likely end up making even more money. lol

It's a calculated gamble of course (many things in life are), but he could very well end up being this season's Christian Eriksen.
