Development/Youth Squads 2022/2023 Thread - U18/U21

Alves looks buzzing to be there lol

Everyone looks like they're not arsed about the game to be fair, hard to blame them having to play a team so far below them in a nothing game. An indicator of an elite mentality would be someone looking to perform at their highest standard regardless of the game or opposition. I'm not seeing a lot of that out there.

Lots of jogging, shoulders down and sloppy passing. I was just about to say Popov has looked hungry running the channels a few times and then go goes and gets a deflected goal :D

Pennant looks like he's just been sent off in world cup final lol

@moore_94 any idea why this game is being played? The gap in quality if frightening.

The Premier League is continuing its support for the development of the game around the world by hosting teams from India and South Africa in the Next Generation Cup 2022.

The eight-team tournament, part of the longstanding partnership between the Premier League and Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), will feature five Premier League youth teams, one South Africa academy side and two from India.

"The Premier League and our clubs look forward to welcoming players from Bengaluru FC and the Kerala Blasters FC for the Next Generation Cup, the first time the youth development tournament has been held in the UK," said Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters.

"This event builds on our continued work with the Hero Indian Super League, to support the development and growth of football in India.

"It also provides a brilliant opportunity for young players from the Leagues to meet and compete against each other, learn about each other’s cultures and develop both on and off the pitch.

"I hope everyone taking part in the Cup at Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur's first-team training facilities enjoys their experience and benefits from their involvement."

Nice one cheers mate.

It's decent that they can come over and experience the top facilities. Giving them something to aspire to. Would probably make more sense to get 8 teams over here and set up a tournament for them. They get to train and play at the facilities while actually getting some competitive football on those pitches as well.

Seems like an initiative with great potential, but could be tweaked to be more beneficial to the teams rather than most likely just being another objective checked off the premier leagues "good image" list.

These obviously aren’t great - but watching Alves here is special. Levels above his teammates.

Think we need to be a bit braver with him at a higher level.

Sadly the opposition are simply levels below our side.  You can’t really judge anyone in this.  We have some tough games in august U23 against spurs and Chelsea.  He will be tested in those.

Must be difficult to stay motivated when you're head and shoulders above a side, so much so that it doesn't seem like much of an effort to best them handsomely. However, I have to say I'm impressed not only with Popov's ability but his application too. Hopefully he ends up playing primarily with U21s this season and bagging a ton of goals for them too.

Not expecting them to be back flipping after a goal but Any player looking like they are sulking around needs to be careful, regardless of opposition they are representing Leicester City and it won’t go unnoticed by staff, attitude is a tick box high up on the check list.
