Anyone heard anything more about any of the youngsters being involved tonight? Won’t get much of a better opportunity.

Not likely to be involved

Brendan Rodgers makes Leicester City team selection vow for Newport after near embarrassment

City take on Newport in much better form than ahead of the previous round, having taken 10 points from their last 15, conceding just once. Their latest win, at Everton, may have been their best performance of the season, and Rodgers has told the players from that match to be ready to go again on Tuesday night.

“We want to get through,” Rodgers said. “I won’t be making too many changes. A lot of the players need to be ready to go again.

“I changed the team about when we went to Stockport and we nearly went out. I don’t want to do that. I want to go through. I think I’ve shown that in the cup competitions. We’ll make some changes naturally, but there won’t be too many.”

Iversen, having impressed in the last round, is one of the changes likely to be made, the Dane coming in for Danny Ward to make his home debut. Jonny Evans and Wilfred Ndidi may also be given their first starts since recovering from injury.

City have only played Newport once, the 2-1 FA Cup third-round defeat in 2019, towards the end of Claude Puel’s tenure. The Exiles are five unbeaten in all competitions and sit 18th in the League Two table.

Leicester City's Under-18s triumphed 3-2 in Saturday's Under-18 Premier League Cup Group E fixture against Blackburn Rovers at LCFC Training Ground.

The Foxes youngsters picked up a first League Cup victory of the campaign last weekend in their outing versus the Lancashire outfit.

Jahmari Lindsay opened the scoring with the only goal of the half in the 14th minute, before Harley Paul O'Grady-Macken levelled things up in the 51st minute.

However, it only took two minutes for City to re-take the lead when Amani Richards netted his first of the match, before etching a second on the scoresheet just before the hour mark, as the forward followed up on his own saved penalty.

The game wasn't finished before a late surge from Rovers, who forced Leicester's 'keeper Dillion Addai into turning the ball into his own goal, but it would make no difference on the scoreline as the whistle blew moments later.

The result leaves City third in Group E with three points from three games. Meanwhile in the league, the Foxes youngsters remain in 10th position with a trip to league leaders West Ham United up next on Saturday 19 November (with a 12pm GMT kick-off).

The details…

City: Addai, Grist (c), McAlinney (Joseph 79'), Cook; Cartwright, Ali (Javaid 72'), Lindsay, Fisken (Lewis 52'), Briggs; Evans, Richards.

Unused subs: Toure, Weeks.

Goals: Evans 58', Richards 53', 59'.

Braybrooke on the bench whilst we play Soumare and Ndidi in the same midfield and we’ve gone strong elsewhere :(

Really weird,  especially when we're crying out for someone with a bit of vision and ability in that position
