Development/Youth Squads 2022/2023 Thread - U18/U21

How the hell can we invest hundreds of millions in a new training ground but not invest at all in a decent youth coach? I mean this has to be one of the biggest questions out of the hundreds that have come to surface recently...

I'm not even saying get rid of Petty with an axe, just give the man a pay rise for commitment, move him to the background and then go and get a forward thinking continental prodigy.

Is Brendan worried that someone forward thinking would call him out or what?

We're crumbling all over the place, there's absolutely no place in the club to find any solace, not even the youth. It's just bloody awful everywhere!!!

...too right!!!

You would have thought that there was a plan and we had identified a list of coaches that we wanted to bring in to push this club along. The fact that we still have the same personnel in place,  doing the same things as before, defeats the purpose of what should have been forward planning.

Just watching the academy last night, there were players out of position and a team which was unbalanced. They appear to be working hard, but vision, awareness and touch seems absent in the majority, and that means the club is letting them down.

When we send our academy to League 1 or 2, and they are struggling to get game time, you know that we have not given them the tools that they need.

Arsenal and then Man City our next two for the U21's

Given a lot of players are having to be used by the first team, and the fact the run of fixtures in PL2 have been relentless and against the best sides, it's a bit of a worry in terms of staying up!

Wonder if we might try and get a few injured seniors back up to scratch to try and steal a few points over the next weeks and months!..... not Vestergard again though lol

Its an issue and a question that many have been raising long, long before we ever moved to Seagrave......and its even more relevant now after investing so heavy in world class facilities.

Took years for Beagle-Ball to be "eased aside"....but the rest of his championship level coaching clique still remain.

As for Petty, seemed a decent coach initially but appears his main contribution to date (other than carrying Beagleholes bags ...!) was to poach a few of his ex-Villa lads (Johannsen, Clarke, Brunt etc...). Not sure what the longer term benefits of any of that will be for us unless Brunt turns out to be a star...?

In which case there won’t be any benefits …..

Under 21s have gone 1-0 up vs Arsenal

@LCFC - "A short corner routine pays off for the #lcfcu21s as Marcal-Madivadua converts K. Pennant's cross from close range"

Naaa can’t be. Think admin has gone full North Korea knowing it’s not televised…
