He has played 80 times for us and yes he had a poor match , he wasn't the only one - by far. We encourage and support our academy players or we are in serious trouble.

We do, but his form has been poor over the past 12 months - I am not too sure he has the qualities to become a permanent premier league starter (happy to be proven wrong!). Taking him out of the limelight and giving him some competition might be what he needs. Kristiansen comes with far more experience from the Champions League.

I think even at the minute it would still be worth a go/achievable.

If fit... do you honestly think our XI from last week would be any 'worse' if you swapped Youri for Sammy and Barnes for Alves? Like at worst a couple more missplaced passes... at best, no fear, taking on players, taking shots etc.

There's other teams in the league who do it, Leeds are one and they're in a similar position to us.

It's all about having a coach with the balls to give it a go.

Barnes should've been rotated with Alves and Maswanhise for a long time imo. Even if it were just to protect Barnes's fitness in games already won/lost.

Still knocks the odd pass that Castagne can only dream about playing.

Same thing happened to the son of a friend of mine who had a lot of interest from Everton, Man Utd and "others" a few years back when he was 14-15.....but they were all put off by the compensation fees as leicester refused to release him once they saw the possibility of financial compensation.

No criticism of the club on that point as the clubs do invest heavily and the system was well designed to protect smaller cubs having their players "poached" by bigger clubs after they have spent years developing them.

The issue for me that i witnessed was that like many others at that time, the development of the player stalled from 16-19 at LCFC (Peake and Beaglehole!) so by the time they released him at 19, the interest from other clubs had receded primarily due to his lack of development and opportunity... and his opportunities elsewhere were no longer what they once were as a very promising 14-15 year old.

Thankfully, he is still playing professionally as he did find another club but LCFC lost out on any compensation fee.....but still incurred all his wage and training costs for those "lost" 4 years.

What some folk dont really appreciate is that its sometimes harder for a player to get out of an academy than it is for them to get into one....!

It's very easy to get out of an academy, just don't turn up for the sessions you are invited to.

To train at an academy it is a mutually beneficial agreement (or should be) not a demand that you can't refuse.

I think the point is, if you want to play at another academy, then yes you are restricted, but you agreed with that point initially. So it's finding the balance for what is right for parents, children and clubs.

There are more things that parents should take into account when offered a place at an academy than the name of the club, but some parents just see what they want to see. We are all human, and we all make decisions we are happy with or can regret. Maybe ther eshiuld be some consultative organisation for patents, but the FA and PL won't have any interest in that.

If the rumours are correct and we are going to replace Thomas with a kid even younger and less experienced , it will send a terrible message to our academy players. How stupid can you get.

Less experience? The new signing has played in Champions League and looked accomplished at that level

Luke's form was more than good enough right up to the point he was dropped for a woefully short of fitness JJ and its never recovered, it was shit management from Rodgers, a recurring theme, to do that to a young lad that was playing well for a player back from a serious injury who wasn't even ready to play

What position is he mate ? Any good ?

Left back / left wing back, and has only played a handful of games for our under 21s so far

Like the first team and the under 18s, the under 21s are a bit of a mess at the moment as well

He came through a local college academy so there isn't really much information out there on him at the moment

Makes it all a bit hard to judge him so far to be honest

...plays wide left!!!

Very go-ahead player, always looking to break forward. He will try things, mostly does not come off but he is willing to not do the normal things. It seems you need a mindset and belief in yourself to survive in this club, the whole stint in this environment just seems to bring players down.

If you asked Chris Fuchs he would probably emphasise the need to read the game and never get caught out of position. His attacking game was carefully judged to avoid that. He would also highlight Albrighton's work in disrupting right sided attacks. During the PL title season our left hand side was almost rock solid.

To me Luke's problem is Barnes. They persist in calling him a winger , not these days he isn't   His defensive work is minimal meaning the LB gets double teamed too often. Ade Lookman helped his full back at all times. Barnes needs moving centrally and a wide man who knows how to defend properly installing.

Absolutely spot-on on all 3 points from my perspective...!

I wouldn't go as far as to say that Barnes is Luke's only problem.....but Barnes's lack of defensive ability and positioning definitely adds to the problems of a relatively young and inexperienced left back and leaves Thomas very exposed.

And i am absolutely certain that opposition teams highlight this in their pre-match analysis when discussing our areas of weakness and tactics against us

As for Barnes playing more centrally and potentially picking the ball up from a little deeper, agree with this 100% as that was his favoured and most effective position throughout his younger playing days.

If nothing else, it is at least worth BR giving it a go to see how it works...!

He was spotted by Ben Petty when Deniche Hill was with the Bermuda National Team

Moved over here 2 years ago and joined the academy which is ran by Micky Adams

Braybrooke playing tonight would tie in with KDH, Praet and Madders all being available for tomorrows squad.

Pleased he’s back getting minutes to be honest, no point sitting on the bench with the current manager!

Hopefully Huth can get him a move to a club that'll fancy giving him minutes for the remainder of the season. He'll learn nothing new from u23 footie at this point.
