Our Internationals 2022/23

This isn't even the squad for the world cup - it's for essentially a couple of friendlies. Why wouldn't you try a couple of options akin to Toney to give you more info before deciding on the world cup squad? I get that then there will be different strategy in how you build the squad as you don't want an injury to leave the squad short in the latter stages. But this is for two games. Two. Just madness that Madders doesn't get in.

Phillips, Grealish, Maguire, Chilwell not starting for their clubs.

People like Bowen, as much as I like him, in poor form, as is Mount.

Clear Madders isn't going to get a chance until the manager changes. Possibly even if he moved to a big 6 club.

He’s got an Irish grandparent already.

However, as his one England cap was in a qualifier, he can’t change allegiance

They changed the rules so you can play up to 3 games, even officials, as long as you're U21.

Madders was 22 when he made his senior debut, Southgate well and truly ****ed his international career.

These are the last friendlies we are playing before the world cup, this is the squad that is going bar any injuries happening

He clearly isn't going to ever pick maddison unless he's scoring a hattrick every game. He just doesn't like him. It was similar with grealish, who was playing great a couple of years ago to the point Southgate couldn't not pick him. Now he's gone shite, but Southgate is too clueless to drop him.

I can see a very Rodgersesque world cup with Southgate setting up to not concede, keeping the ball and boring everyone to death.

And Harrison, again.  2nd in assists, 7th in crosses, among the leaders in xA and chances created.  Why not give him a chance in a couple of friendlies?

The reason is obvious - Southgate hates creative players in the midfield.  Maddison has made it easy for him to be excluded through his off-field conduct, but essentially he’s frozen out for the same reason.

What exactly was Madisons conduct that was so bad?

He's a great guy and has done nothing compared to others in the squad.

He left the national team because of a supposed illness and then got filmed partying in a casino.  It was a colossally dumb move on his part and Southgate took it as a slap in the face.  It shouldn’t be that big a deal in the long term but when the manager is basically looking for a reason not to pick you, it’s pretty damn stupid to give him one as ready-made as that.

All I saw was him playing poker. It's not like he was drunk, crashed a car then left the scene.

He was supposed to be sick and resting.  I don’t see any point in whitewashing it - clearly, it was a dumb thing to do.  If Southgate were a bigger man and/or a manager who liked creative players, it wouldn’t matter.  Unfortunately he’s neither of those things.
