OH Leuven Thread 2022/23

Recommended Posts

New Signings:

Nordin Jackers - 24 year old goalkeeper on a 3 year deal from Waasland-Beveren - https://www.ohleuven.com/nieuws/2625909/nordin-jackers-tekent-voor-3-seizoenen

Raphael Holzhauser - 29 year old attacking mid on a 2 year deal from Beerschot - https://www.ohleuven.com/nieuws/2639102/welkom-rapha

Joren Dom - 32 year old right back on a 2 year deal from Beerschot - https://www.ohleuven.com/nieuws/2594792

Current Squad:

None of the loan players with options to buy will be staying permanently - Alexis De Sart, Cedric Gbo, Sory Kaba, Alex Runarsson and Thibault Vlietinck - https://www.ohleuven.com/nieuws/2637845/contractuele-aankoopopties-niet-gelicht

Rafael Romo, Daan Vekemans, and Toon Raemaekers have all joined other clubs for free

Kaveh Rezaei and Yanick Aguemon have not been renewed - https://www.ohleuven.com/nieuws/2612088

Seems like Mandela Keita could be the player with a lot of transfer interest for a move this summer

Also rumours for Xavier Mercier possibly leaving as well

Actually, that would be a really good and most likely friendly event to go to. I've never been to Belgium and it would be nice to meet some of our counterparts and perhaps buy one of their shirts. I don't think we'd be subject to any animosity would we?

Not a chance, not an aggressive scene there at all.

It’s also mixed in seating for this I heard.

@BroughtonFox New Thread :thumbup:

So, Xavier Mercier now officially out, moves to Ferencváros (Hungary) due to desire to play European football.

Note as well that we've still got some players out on loan:

  • Thai goalkeeper Kawin Thamsatchanan (32) played only 7 matches for Port FC in his home country, did however captain Thailand to the Southeast Asian Games final during the month of May, which they lost vs Vietnam. Then played another friendly vs Turkmenistan, but then the loan deal is over so he should return - https://www.ohleuven.com/nieuws/2439438/thamsatchanan-naar-port-fc (original loan message saying he's loaned until the end of the season)
  • French defender Scotty Sadzoute (24) was signed in the summer of 2021 from Lille but never played and thus has been loaned out since the winter to Nîmes (French Ligue 2), but this loan deal runs until the summer of 2023 so we won't be seeing him back soon.
  • Finally, Canadian international Tristan Borges (23) appears to also still be on the books of OHL. Was signed in January 2020 from Canadian champions Forge FC with a contract until summer of 2022, but rarely played and was loaned back to Forge in March 2021 for the 2021 Canadian Premier League season, which ended in November 2021. This February the loan was extended for the 2022 Canadian Premier League season as well, but not sure if his contract with OHL has not expired by then.

Furthermore, on the outgoing list, we also had some players on loan without buy option, I'm expecting these to leave as well: Sébastien Dewaest (Genk), Mykola Kukharevych (Troyes), Cenk Özkacar (Lyon).

To summarize, current we've got for next season (youngsters/U23 with *):

GK: Oregan Ravet*, Nordin Jackers, Kawin Thamsatchanan

DF: Sofian Chakla, Pierre-Yves Ngawa, Dylan Ouédraogo*, Casper de Norre, Louis Patris*, Joren Dom, Joel Shingtienne*

MF: Kristiyan Malinov, Mandela Keita*, Mathieu Maertens, Ilyas Lefrancq*, Jo Gilis*, Milan Taildeman*, Isaac Asante*, Raphael Holzhauser, Max Tahara*. Siebe Schrijvers is injured until 2023! https://sporza.be/nl/2022/04/29/ohl-middenvelder-siebe-schrijvers-minstens-acht-maanden-buiten-strijd-met-zware-blessure~1651255903752/

FW: Musa Al-Tamari, Levan Shengelia, Arthur Allemeersch*

I know it's not a great barometer/rule to stick by, but if he ain't getting in the Metz team then I doubt that he'd offer us much.

I meant for Leuven

Youssef Maziz from Seraing has good stats and they went down (I think), would be he be a good signing @Bonanza?

Yeh Seraing had several players on loan from Metz this season and Metz dropped to the Ligue 2 indeed. (Seraing did not relegate)

Several interesting profiles amongst those loanees, Maziz (23) indeed, but also goalkeeper Dietsch (21) and striker Mikautadze (21) have shown skills. Personally also interested where Gambian winger Ablie Jallow (23) will end up. Anyway, all depends what Metz decides to do, for all we know they intend to put them in their first team now since they dropped a lvl. :)

I would love this signing, but I don't think it will happen.

Maziz still has a contract until 2024 with FC Metz, that owns Seraing. My guess is that Maziz will get his chance in Metz's first team, that dropped down to the French 2nd division. If not, they will send him back on loan to Seraing.

In this interview Brys and our chairman talk about adding more players to the squad since it's far from complete at the moment. In particular a goalkeeper (I suppose Jacker will be 2nd choice than?) and strikers (plural). I think we can do with a creative and speedy winger or two and another central defender or two as well. Still hoping for Ozkacar and Dewaest to return.

Ambitions are to not relegate in the first place but we should aim to do better than this season (11th in the ranking).

Another interview with our coach Brys and CEO Willems.

In short about transfers:

- In two or three weeks the squad should be more complete already.

- One position is more urgent than the other, but for every position they have several candidates already.

- They want a more stable squad, so they'll try to avoid the loan spells to avoid having to look for 10 players every transfer period.

- Our director of football's job has been temporarily filled in by Brys, Mariman and CEO Willems. Willems will finalise the transfers after receiving a green light from the other two. Brys seems to be happy with this way of working.

- By next week Willems wants to announce a few more transfers already, but you never know what will happen.

- Holzhauser plays better with moving people in front of him. They'll be looking for strikers with that profile (so no more targetman?)

- They will try to hang on to Keita unless they receive a crazy bid.

Yikes...moving on to a gambling website as main shirt sponsor.

Unfortunately this is very common in Belgium...

16 out of the 18 first division clubs in Belgium are sponsored by gambling companies.

Only KAS Eupen (owned by Aspire Academy from Qatar, where gambling is illegal) and Beerschot don't have any sponsors related to gambling

Have we stopped loaning player to leuven/ have they just stopped accepting them?

They don’t take them unless the manager actually wants them / will use them - unlike when we loaned them Benkovic and they signed King, the manager didn’t want them

Which I think is the way it should be, rather than sending them players and trying to “force” the manager to use them

Updated the squad above, apparently Allemeersch, Asante and Ouédraogo are end of contract and released according to some sources. Ouédraogo however was playing in the friendly yesterday so seems he's staying. No mention at all of Thamsatchanan, don't think we'll see him back either.

Barely a team left tbh, yesterday's friendly involved 5 youngsters from the U23 squad (Desmond Acquah (19), Ilias Breugelmans (21), Nachon Nsingi (21), Joël Schingtienne (19) and "Tann" (20). Even had to look up that last one, apparently one of the Thai kids, full name: Sirimongkol Rattanapoom, never heard of). Malinov and Al-Tamari missing due to international duties, but still.
