OH Leuven Thread 2022/23

...he reminds me so much of Mendy!!!

He seems that he has a lot more in him than he shows and I  hope he looks to do more on the pitch.

Some players just need trust and time to show good form. Honestly I still prefer him over Malinov though. Malinov is a pitbull on speed that seems to be kicking everything that moves. All good if you don't pick up yellow and red cards or cause penalties though... which is clearly not the case. I have a feeling that we have too many players that are just good at one thing. Our goalie has good reflexes but sucks at distribution, Malinov is a tireless midfielder but with 0 focus and bad passing. Tamari has acceleration and pace... but nothing else. Time to get some more all round players Brys?

We're talking about a 20-year old lad here! One of the biggest talents to come out of our youth rangs. Last year he was a regular starter and one of our better players, but of course we don't have the patience to get him back at his former level...

You make it seem like Keita has been playing regular minutes since his return from injury. That's simply not true. 6 minutes in his first game back after injury versus Waregem, 0 minutes vs Genk, 21 vs Eupen, 13 vs STVV, 5 vs Gent, 48 vs Cercle Brugge, 24 vs Seraing, 65 in the Cup vs Kortrijk, 0 vs Club Brugge, 69 vs Kortrijk in the league and 45 vs Westerlo. The last 3 games (Eupen, Union and STVV) he sat on the bench for 90 minutes! This is not regular football in my book. It's simply not enough to get match fit!

I agree that he didn't perform well during the little game time he recieved but again: we're talking about a 20-year old lad who returned from injury. Give him some time! Furthermore, the rest of the team hasn't performed well in the last month or so. But sure, let's single out Keita...

You say this has nothing to do with Brys. I disagree! This has everything to do with Brys! It's his job as manager to get his players into shape and to get the best out of his players. Why else would you need a manager????

It does seem like Keita forced the move to Antwerp himself. I think he wanted to get away from this sad excuses for a manager who clearly isn't capable the get him back to his old level!

He didn't come off the bench for the last three games, correct. In the four games before that, he played at least half of the game in three of them, starting two. He was disappointing in every single one of them. And you can see from the way he's playing that it's his attitude that is the problem.

I think you put too much of the responsibility with the coach. A player's attitude is his own responsibility. I'm hoping this move will teach him some modesty, as I'm fairly sure that Antwerp won't pay the 10M stipulated in the contract so he'll be back next year.

I also preferred him over Malinov, but to be fair, Malinov's game time has also been very limited lately (and for good reason).

We had enough chances to score, but once again we lacked the quality in the back and in the front. Partly due to tactical choices, partly due to the players not upping their game. We will have to look back to avoid relegation from now on I am afraid. I am not even upset anymore. I just expect more of the same every week and sadly OHL is delivering exactly that. We are so predictable on and off the pitch. Once again they didn't get the players they targetted during the winter transfers... don't even know who to blame for that anymore. And our tactics are just the same every week.Teams can easily prepare for a game against us. All they have to do is watch last week's game.

Let's sit out the ride, hope for enough draws to keep us in and hope that Top gives us another financial boost next summer to live up to the expectations his dad build (not even gonna talk about that he mentioned to make us champions within the first 4 years). A new staff with fresh ideas would be welcome too.

Got one point less than the 15th placed team got last season, need about 40 to be absolutely safe in any case. Currently on 31, don't think we need to worry about going down but it's been like this for six or seven games now. Plenty of chances but no efficiency and every game at least one idiotic goal conceded.

...so many times breaking out of defence and just not having someone who could carry the ball out of defence to counter!!!

This team is so close to being a top team, it just lacks that bit of control in the middle.

Well we did have a certain Mercier that unexplicably got replaced by an Austrian pinetree who now got loaned out to 3rd division in Germany... sigh

Not going to go down but disappointing to see Leuven falling down the table when not too long ago they looked well in for the fight for the European playoffs

Things have got to change this summer. Not only do we need a new manager, we also need some new people in the board room.

If we look at the money King Power has invested in OHL, it's an absolute disgrace we haven't established ourselves as a top10 club in Belgium yet!

New manager, a new board with actual experience in the football world and negotiation skills, and a transfer budget to do something about having to get in free players so we can actually get the players that we need. If you tell the supporters you want to become champion of Belgium you have to act like it as well.

Nobody actually said that though. That story keeps refloating once every while, but there's no factual basis for it. What they did say is that in due time, they want to 'tickle' the top four once in a while, and become a certainty for Playoff 2 at least.

I'm not going to pretend that I'm happy with the way things are right now, but it looks like we'll be staying up another season and we've never spent more than three seasons in 1A so far. And despite all the bad results of the past few months, we're still only four points away from 8th place. If we keep playing like we did yesterday, there has to come a point where we convert those chances, grab the win and turn it around really.

And I do feel that we did some good work as well during the (summer) transfer window. Mendyl has been a fantastic signing, as have Ricca and Pletinckx. I also think there's a lot more to come from Thorsteinsson.

He's been a rotation player at Ferencvaros, averaging about 25' a match.

He was such a good player at OHL.  Why did he leave?  Because a club in a one-team league used some CL/EL euros to give him a raise to ride their bench?

He didn't get enough playing time in the CL to break a sweat.
