Recruitment strategy under the spotlight

Sound like he was spot on!

To be honest i’m starting to lean towards the idea of trusting our current crop of players and just promoting Iversen, Wright, etc :dunno:. Maybe bring in 1-2 loans? Puts us in a bit of a mess with contracts expiring, but there’s also opportunity to attract better talents next summer as we’ll have a bigger wage budget. Keep our best players like Castagne/Youri and lets see what happens.

Depressing. No-one wants our deadwood because they are on stupid wages so we are going to actually have to start selling our best assets if we want to bring anyone in.

All with 3 week til the start of the season. What a mess lol

This is something that is mostly on the board. Its a shambles some of the contracts they negotiate and sanction. I dread to think of what some of the agents fees are as it seems they’ve had us over a barrel since our PL win.

Stowell is the set piece coach and Rodgers has said that publicly.

And he said publicly we brought in a specialist when asked about it. In what capacity or what length of time nobody knows, but he said it.

If he was brilliant at all those things he would have played for Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man City, etc... not us.

I would say he's improved at all those things as well, they may not be as good as some of his shot-stopping, but so what? He's still gone from a decent Championship keeper to one of the best in the Premier League.

But the point is that if you have 10 years to work with a keeper you should do a lot better with some of the weaker aspects of their game. Theres no excuse, its easy to make him better at what he’s already good at. A good coach would also make him better at what he’s bad at.

I reckon between a third and hald of the set piece goals conceded last season would have been avoided if Kasper was able to command his area and come and collect balls. Instead he takes the safe option and hopes to rely on his shot stopping it a chance comes in.

Has been here to see us win the multiple leagues & Cups but apparently he's not good enough anymore

.  I  would surmise that he (Stowell) is part of the fixtures and fittings at the club and has a job for life!!!

A lot of trust has been placed with him, I would say Top sees him as a big part of "the  family" and he has been our caretaker manager on numerous occasions.

He appears to coach in a certain way and his charges have the same flaws, a reluctance to come for the ball. They tend to excel in shot stopping but are limited in handling aerial crosses.

I do not believe Rodgers could get him out, even if he wanted to.

The mental gymnastics here is incredible.

Here’s a idea , try to Loan them out I am sure there would be teams in the championship who would take , SO pay half there wages , just to move them on . I am sure the ones we want to move on can leave for free next year , sometimes u have make tough decisions

IF the manager had come out last season post Forest and said something along the lines of "we know we've not been good enough but we have quality in this squad. We will address the issues when we get to summer,  and with maybe one or two signings and everyone fit we can be a force again in the league", would there be this negative cloud hanging over everything?

I'm not blaming Rodgers for his comments, completely different issue. My concern is the longer this goes on we appear to be going into the season with negative press and atmosphere regarding the club amongst fans which is never healthy. If we got everyone back fit, and we keep them fit, this squad has the quality to match any team on their day. I know that's a fairly simplistic view and there are other issues within the squad but surely we address these in house and show a united front going into the season.

Don't get hung up on what managers say, they all lie.

Well it’s the best source of info we have currently on the subject. So if people are going to moan about not having one and totally ignore the manager when he says we brought one in…. I give in.

Literally have no idea what you are on about.

Last season Rodgers was asked abut bringing in a specialist coach, and to paraphrase said they had done, and that they had given some good advice in an attacking and defensive sense.

Whether Mike Stowell did set pieces before that isn’t relevant to the conversation.

Well they bombed Dave Rennie out, so that reasoning doesn’t wash.

Perhaps our keepers have struggled with crosses because we’ve had short arse keepers for about 15 years.

Do you think he should have stretched him or something?

He's told jackanoories about a number of things though. It's like trying to claim Boris said something about there not being any parties.

I await the concrete evidence to prove it then.

I mean, people could actually moan about the shite we know is true like him saying set pieces weren’t a problem to start with, rather than stuff like this.

If we do not sign anyone, regardless of past achievements, it will be a complete and udder failure and embarrassment on every level from bottom upwards. Absolutely shameful we're a premier league club. We were also promised a rebuild. Shame absolutely

I've come to the conclusion this week ending that we aren't really going to sign anyone, we aren't really 100% after or interested in anyone.

We're just hoping that small crumbs like Coliwell want to come here.

Think Top has said to Brendan ....work with what you got because you signed them and now you don't want them and can't get rid of them!

People have lost their minds, we still have 7 weeks to sign players. lol

Don’t you see anything in a football club identifying targets and securing them early so that they can have a proper pre season?

I’ve always thought that to be the better way of doing it.
I like what Gerrard has done at Villa in this respect and what Pep has done at Man City. No messing about, they’ve got who they want in.

We don’t do this very well anymore, with last summer proving a disaster in this respect.
