Recruitment strategy under the spotlight

...if the players are not capable of self motivation,  then Rodgers has cultivated a group who are mentally weak!!!

Squads tend to be a reflection of their manager.

Agree. Sometimes last season they looked as if they were just going through the motions. We didn´t see a lot of "fight" and "attitude" in the team. Against the top 6 teams we folded meekly every time and against teams we could/should beat we made horrendous mistakes and saw no attitude in fighting back. Strange really.

Why don’t you go and ask him.

How do you know nobody has been brought in? How do you know they aren’t part time or consultants, rather than full time employed?

Seems to be rather a large amount of guess work with very little knowledge going on in this thread.

Pretty sure a few on here who know the in's and outs of the training ground said there is no individual employed to specialise in set pieces. It's one of his fibs or miscommunications. Sounds like one of the coaches lead on it, which is fine if they were any good at it.

And how is what you've just said NOT "guesswork with very little knowledge"?

It MAY be a consultant, you're right so maybe I should rephrase my question... Why don't we have a DECENT set piece speacialist at the club? Because that quote you just used was from November and we've not gotten any better so whoever this consultant may be, they need to be placed firmly in the bin.

Mines not guesswork because the manager said it.

Nobody on here knows that much.

Or it’s true and you are overestimating peoples knowledge.

He said we currently have a specialist setplay coach. It was YOU that speculated that they may be a consultant or part time, which is just guesswork.

Stowell is the set piece coach and Rodgers has said that publicly.

There is absolutely no need to get all pissy about it. We are having a discussion about who is in charge of our ser plays and wether or not they are specialist or have just been charged with that responsibility. You are right in that we are speculating but there is absolutely no need to get all passive aggressive about it.

What ISN'T speculation is that whoever is doing it, is crap at it and needs to stop doing it.

Its not that he’s not good enough anymore its that he’s never been good enough. When you spend 10 years working with an international goalkeeper and do not improve a single weakness the proof is in the pudding.

I didn’t realise Stowell was credited for being the main reason they happened?

Come on now, he’s been a loyal servant to the club but his primary role is GK coach and him not improving Kasper’s development areas is the biggest testament to his contribution over the years if ask me.

Kasper has progressed enormously since he first came in, what are you on about?

Still doesn’t come off his line for corners, kicking is still all over the place, still can get caught flat footed when a shot comes in from distance and his command of the area is still poor.

Dont get me wrong he’s improved on what he’s good at and it can mask some of his weaknesses but the real issue is that he hasn’t improved any weaknesses really in 10 years.

Depressing. No-one wants our deadwood because they are on stupid wages so we are going to actually have to start selling our best assets if we want to bring anyone in.

All with 3 week til the start of the season. What a mess lol

Pretty sure Andy King left the club years ago. Pretty sure the manager knows more than him about who he has and hasn’t brought into the club and in what capacity.

We should do everything we can to keep Castagne. We'll be in the shit if Ricardo and JJ have a season where they regularly pick up little knocks. Nothing against the lad, but we can't afford to rely on Thomas again like the way we did last season.

Agreed

Castagne is one of the players at the club I definitely would not want to be sold.

The problem is, I still maintain, we have a very able first team. But then we have many ‘squad players’ who other teams just don’t want. Why? Because they ain’t much good:

Choudry, Amartey, Vestergaard, Bertrand,  Perez, Soumare, Mendy

None of these have got clubs queuing to submit offers and I fear they’ll pretty much all leave the club on free transfers when their contract ends.

I hope I’m wrong as the club needs funds for the transfer kitty, but I think what with their level and ability and their wages, we’re stuck with them

Would hate to see Timmy leave, great professional and player.

If he goes surely we have to bring in another RB? all the exciting young ones seem to have made moves, Hikcey, Ramsey, Spence.

We'll probably end up with Yan fvcking Valery
