Well for a start the £80-million is your valuation - there’s no real way of knowing whether that’s right

Even if you are - you only get to realise that value if you sell….

And in the meantime you are paying out wages to players turning out for Fleetwood and Forest Green - they may come back Premier-ready they may not. most do not.

OK lets forget the like of Barnes, KDH, Iversen that are all in the squad and benefit from the loan system, because in your mind you can value them.

We have sold Chilwell (45m) and Sowah (8m) from the academy who both went on loan, for a combine total of 53m, realised value.

Also the loan team often pay a fee or the loanee wages as well.

So you still don't think its a good idea?

Apparently turned down bids of £1.5m this summer for him, if that's true its even more peculiar goings on.

Doesn't fit with the we are skint narrative, if you are you move on the likes of Hirst and Wright for few quid as its easy money.

To be fair if Hirst can show the form he had for the second half of last season 11 in 23 over a full season in L1 or the Championship he will be worth a lot more.

Can't help but this we stuff up his development with a poor loan to Rotherham.

If this is remotely true.. £25k a week for guy whos never going to make it here and wages that price out the majority of EFL clubs? And the club wonder why they are in such a mess..

If it’s true, and I think that’s a big if, then can only imagine the club see him coming into the first team squad after a loan to the championship… plenty of championship clubs pay those wages btw, Smithies was on 30k a week before he came to us.

We were offering Tavares 20k/week, so this doesn't surprise me. Hirst did very well in the back half of last season. If he can replicate that form in the Championship, it will be more than worth it.

It does say including bonuses and achievements, so could be a high goal bonus, wage is 25k if he breaks into our first team? Doesn’t sound like a straight 25k a week?

Yeah, it’s not a straight 25k a week. Assuming he isn’t talking utter shite, which is entirely possible. No idea if he is reliable or not but it’s a really weird thing to make up a story about, it’s not really high traction is it…

£1.3m per year for a player who won't ever play for us? :wes::nigel:

It’s an investment, some times with risks like this it pays off, sometimes it doesn’t. In the grand scheme of PL football £1.3mil is peanuts.

As someone has pointed out his form at the back end of last year was exceptional. If he does that again and bags 20+ goals at that level, he could be worth big money.

He may never have to play for us to recoup all of the investment.

We may make a profit however. I’m starting to suspect we’re following Chelsea’s loan strategy.
