George Hirst

If we shoved him into our squad now , he would score a few goals. He is big and pretty fast. However after Slimani , we apparently don't want that type of striker. We think we are far too good for that sort of thing. We want to be like Man.City. Oh wait a minute they have a big , fast striker now. Rodgers , who worships at the alter of Guardiola , might be changing his mind.

We got his Championship loan completely wrong and he basically wasted a year, he should've been in League One at that point

31 league appearances - just 4 starts

662 minutes played

He played the equivalent of just 7.4 games

His actual wage is not going to be £25k a week, that is only when bonuses and achievements are included

If he is earning that much at any point that is because he is doing well, which means he will have a much higher value to sell on

Writing him off before he's even been given a chance. Probably all of us did the same with KDH when he was no where near the first team at 21, but thanks to the right loans, and a team who saw him day in and day out has resulted in KDH being arguably one of our most important players in the squad.

Oh and let's not forget, Vardy was written off at 26 in the championship. Things change quickly in football. You only have to look at Dele Alli.

If he signs the contract, give him a chance and stop being so negative.

Ive watched George Hirst play so many times and never understood what all the hype was about.  not sure he would've achieved all he has if it wasn't for his dads connection....but that's just my personal opinion.

But one thing i am absolutely certain about is that he will never be a PL level player or be one of our starting players....unless we end up playing in the chapionship!

Seems to me this is more about finance and maths than his ability.

Options seem to be...

a/. continue to pay him £10k/week to see out the final year of his contract and then he leaves on a free resulting in -£0.5m loss over the next year (+ losses from previous years wages)

or

b/. we accept his demands of £25k/week on a 3 year deal,  loan him out to championship club (who pay 50% of his wages!) and hope he does well enough for them to buy him for +£1.5m next year, thereby resulting in a marginal nett profit

Problem with option B/. is that if he doesn't do well enough at championship level, we could be left with a player on our books for 3 years costing us £1.2m in salary costs with minimal resale value.....a scenario that is starting to become a bit of a problem for us right now.

I don't think you can compare Hirst with Kiki when they had such different development paths and were unfancied for different reasons - Despite not standing out from the crowd in youth football, Kiki's biggest doubts were over whether he could handle the step up in physicality from youth to senior football and as such had very little pressure of expectation, whereas with Hirst it was almost the opposite. And paying established Championship player wages to a player we only seem to be extending to try and flip for a profit will only thrust more pressure upon him.

Blackburn fan in peace, just a quick question, what should we expect from this chap?

Apparently we’ve agreed to pay you £5million to take him permanently at the end of the season.

Must have signed a new contract then 🤔 Quite  quick for a big man decent finishing . Probably better if asking a Pompey fan tho 😅

The new deals for him and Choudhury just make no sense. Seems like this summer's issues are going to persist with these decisions.

If they generate 10m in sales next summer (as per reported buy options) will you still be saying it makes no sense?

And if it doesn’t, he’s shit at Blackburn and Hamza at Watford, and we’re lumbered with paying 60k pw to two championship standard players for the next three years what then?
