Set Piece Coach

I thought that lol

The guy isn't here to provide analysis. He's here to provide specialist training to a bunch of players that badly need it and can't get it from any of the existing coaching staff.

If Rodgers doesn't allow him to do that, we'll see Knudsen leave before Christmas.

I'd love his first session to start with. "Right, whatever Brendan and Kolo have told you, forget it"

Hopefully with the delay in his arrival he’s been able to review lots of footage and put plans in place already.

I still don't understand how any player who has reached premier league standard of football defending still needs a bloody coach to show them how to defend from set pieces and corners. They are not kids in the academy for god's sake. Do you think any of the top sides have coaches for the same problem.:dunno:

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, Spurs etc. all have them

Arsenal saw massive improvements in their set piece statistics after bringing one in

...you do get the impression that he could bring some positivity to the group and get the players buying in!!!

A new voice with a sensible approach to dealing with a problem that has been there for a long time. This benefits Rodgers to a degree, any improvement in results will come back to him, but the underlying reason for any upturn will be noticeable by people within the club who will see the difference a new voice makes in players' attitude and what they deliver on the pitch.

...if Klopp can go out to recruit a coach, dealing with taking throw-ins, then I am sure there are other clubs out there with specialist coaches in place for different areas!!!

Yes i understand all that, but it still begs the question how fvck have they got to this level without being able to take a throw in?

....I have been saying it for years, literally years, we are no good at taking them (throw-ins)!!!

Just you watch when we take them, it even happens with the ladies' team, it becomes at best a 50/50 ball or a 60/40 to our opponents, it is unbelievable. The ball to feet, the pass back to feet, and the triangle to feet, no bouncing the ball, no throws waist high, just get it to feet, everything on the ground. Making yourselves available would also be a good thing to practice.

Reading Muzzy Izzet's book.  He asserts that ONeill's side had no specific training for corners, yet the 3 big central defenders were amazingly effective both defensively and offensively at corners.  All 3 were very aggressive and determined to make that first contact on the ball, and they were big, hard blokes.  Hard to know whether the difference from our defending now is simply the strength and determination of those defenders under O'Neill, or maybe tactics have move on from that era and we simply haven't had a good enough specialist coach.

....I suspect from what he can see from the outside, coming here would not be a good move right now!!!

Our treatment of Rodgers is going to influence potential managers, we cannot afford to be perceived as the bad guys here.

I can't believe that people actively involved with the modern game can't see thre extent to which Rodgers is the architect behind our current woes.

...all they are going to see is that he hasn't been backed in the summer window and he did not get the refresh that he wanted!!!

For us now to sack him due to having little or no finance, and a squad looking for reinforcement will be seen as an obscene gesture. It is all about the optics and unless you are a supporter of this club, the prevailing media narrative is that he is being hard done by.

When football was still a man's game, what club hired set pieces coaches ? Did they fvck. They expected their players to know their trade be it striker, midfield goalkeeper, or defender. No one employed a player at the top level to have to be continually coached on a job they bloody well should know anyway. Shite like this is the reason modern football is so unwatchable. Falling out with the beautiful game gets easier by the season.

Why do we have managers or any coaches? Surely players should be able to decide between themselves who's best and what the best formation is

Robbie Savage said the same on 5Live after someone rang in and did the “why aren’t we getting Tags, Elliott or Walsheh training set pieces” thing. Basically said O’Neill’s only instruction was “make sure you get to the ball first” and that was it.

Liverpool even have one specifically for throw ins

All about those marginal gains at this level, if we had conceded even just a few less goals from set pieces we might have even been in the European places again

It's all apart of the King Power Stadium experience.

1. Struggle to get in through turnstile

2. Queue patiently observing disorganised catering staff and then spend triple for the privilege.

3. Get your eyebrows singed by some flame throwers

4. Watch a light show which involves someone turning the flood lights on and off quickly in the day light.

5. Get your ear drums berated by the 1920 style speaker system.

6. Watch all your optimism fade into Rodgers' notebook as we concede from a set peice in the first 5 minutes.

7. Watch Luke Thomas wait 2 minutes to take a throw when chasing the game.

...and repeat.
