Set Piece Coach

...if Klopp can go out to recruit a coach, dealing with taking throw-ins, then I am sure there are other clubs out there with specialist coaches in place for different areas!!!

Someone has a job where they specialize in throw ins?  I'm assuming they do more than this, if not how much do they work a week?  30 minutes?

I still don't understand how any player who has reached premier league standard of football defending still needs a bloody coach to show them how to defend from set pieces and corners. They are not kids in the academy for god's sake. Do you think any of the top sides have coaches for the same problem.:dunno:

Man City are scoring more, and conceeding less every season since getting their (current?) piece coach. It's made an enormous difference for them.

...I  cannot locate the article at the moment, but it was posted on another thread in response to me questioning our inability to properly execute a throw-in!!!

Their is a lot more to it and it did sharpen up the team, to see opportunities for executing quick action, as the spaces are not occupied by set defenders.

There are a lot of things that need to be tweaked on the pitch,  common  errors by players which should be immediately addressed. Our shooting from outside the box need someone to work on players technique. Liverpool had that set up back in the Emlyn Hughes days, these fine margins being addressed, will elevates us.

I’ve been saying this for a while. The number of throw ins that are thrown straight to the opposition is criminal. You don’t see other teams struggling with it! Also I have noticed with headers our defenders tend to head straight to the opposition  down the middle rather than to our full/wing backs out wide.

....another of my bugbears..!!!

It seems just allowing the ball to hit their heads is sufficient to say the have done their jobs.

You watch the players who have been taught to head the ball properly and you see they will use their neck muscles, the others just try to stick their heads in the way of the ball.

It's all apart of the King Power Stadium experience.

1. Struggle to get in through turnstile

2. Queue patiently observing disorganised catering staff and then spend triple for the privilege.

3. Get your eyebrows singed by some flame throwers

4. Watch a light show which involves someone turning the flood lights on and off quickly in the day light.

5. Get your ear drums berated by the 1920 style speaker system.

6. Watch all your optimism fade into Rodgers' notebook as we concede from a set peice in the first 5 minutes.

7. Watch Luke Thomas wait 2 minutes to take a throw when chasing the game.

...and repeat.

Ain't it the truth.

This is something the set piece Coach should pick up on quickly. We're terrible on defensive headers. As you say we tend to head towrds the middle of the pitch. That's the first mistake. The more important one is we don't position anyone in this area to pick up these balls and mark the opposition from winning them.

We're just as bad when attacking Corners. We don't position anyone outside the box to pick up those type of headers from Corners etc.

These are basic defensive issues that BR should have picked up on long ago and fixed them.

When football was still a man's game, what club hired set pieces coaches ? Did they fvck. They expected their players to know their trade be it striker, midfield goalkeeper, or defender. No one employed a player at the top level to have to be continually coached on a job they bloody well should know anyway. Shite like this is the reason modern football is so unwatchable. Falling out with the beautiful game gets easier by the season.

'ave it!!

I maybe losing my mind, but having a longer break, having a set piece coach in and now the head of recruitment in place, whether this will bring a positive vibe back to the team.

it gives the coach more time to work with the team before our next match, might even bring in new fresh ideas that make the players more positive, which might improve performances.

Just my hope, or the thought of work tomorrow has sent me insane.

At least we don't have to listen to that stupid goal music much anymore.

Surely it doesn’t take a set piece coach to work out that putting a player on the posts from set pieces would have saved us 5/6 goals this season already!

We went back to doing that last season, but it comes with the added risk of playing everyone onside

....I have been saying it for years, literally years, we are no good at taking them (throw-ins)!!!

Just you watch when we take them, it even happens with the ladies' team, it becomes at best a 50/50 ball or a 60/40 to our opponents, it is unbelievable. The ball to feet, the pass back to feet, and the triangle to feet, no bouncing the ball, no throws waist high, just get it to feet, everything on the ground. Making yourselves available would also be a good thing to practice.

Same here, it's also been getting progressively worse.
