Set Piece Coach

Class and instant change. Looked so much more dangerous attacking

Bit embarrassing for Brendan he couldn’t have any impact and this bloke transformed us attacking set pieces in 2 weeks

In fairness, it’s his one job. If he hadn’t made an impact in two weeks of doing the ONLY thing he is paid to do, it would be pretty embarrassing for him.

Would counterpoint and say the manager was responsible for set pieces and we conceded record numbers

Cannot believe you need a specialist for all the things last night

I still don't think it's great tactics for everyone to be crammed into one tiny area. Every time we got the ball away it inevitably came straight back. These were a very poor side and better one's will punish use. Also, from a few set peices, we allowed a man to be totally unmarked at the back and still no-one on the back post either. More aggression and attacking the ball yes, still fragile? Absolutely.

One step at a time! The message is getting thru and once it sinks in and stays there Imo we won’t have these defensive blunders anymore. Give it time. It’s all positive. Every single players was laser focused. I could see no one wanted to make a mistake and that’s what we’ve been lacking for 6 games.

Yeah I would agree that we shouldn’t be incompetent without a set piece coach and the incompetence is down to Rodgers ultimately. However, I wouldn’t expect Rodgers personally to have a huge influence on corner routines and innovative free kicks given his broader remit.

It was notable that there was already an improvement in this area. Defensively a few times you could see how much concentration out-field players were putting in. For Maddison's goal, it was clear the entire wall shifted as he hit it to make extra space for him. Pretty clever, even though the finish was so good it didn't really matter.

Seems like a good appointment so far, and could be a huge difference maker come the end of the season. We score enough goals, if we didn't concede such stupid ones we won't be battling the drop.

The coach is called Lars Knudsen. Seems like a good pick-up!

Clever - Henderson was able to see the ball and then all of a sudden he couldn’t which forced him to guess and naturally take a step to his right

he was probably thinking to himself ‘how easy is this I can see the ball struck from where I’m standing’

...from what we have seen before, no one has paid much attention to the problem!!!

Rodgers did not believe there was an issue, and I have said for ages he needed to bring someone in to work alongside him. Too early to say at the moment but Knudsen could be the balance that Rodgers needs.

No coincidence we have had had three consecutive clean sheets whist still facing plenty of corners/free kicks.

not sure if it’s down to positioning or better awareness/anticipation but we are not crapping ourselves every time we concede a set piece now

One leads to the other. Better positioning and being aware makes you more confident.

When we concede a set piece, when the camera zooms in you see how much more concentration our players are putting in. I am sure the coach has really drilled into them the need to really focus in those moments.
