Falling out of love with football.

It’s a lot of little things adding up and I’m feeling less and less interested post covid.

I’m really only holding onto my Season Ticket at the minute because I know how much of a pain it would be to get one again.

It just feels all so false. The whole PL has become a monster which is spiralling out of control. Sky Sports and the

media love in with the Big 6 just seems to be stepping up to nauseating levels. The kids on Twitter with their ITK accounts, The overseas fans posting anything and everything without ever seeing a game in the flesh. FFP is absolute joke, just designed to maintain the status quo throughout Europe.

Getting to the game is becoming a pain as the city council seem to delight in making travel and parking anywhere as painful as possible. Petty Security checks to see if your bottle of water is sealed. Non transferable digital tickets, it just adds up.

I subscribe to Sky and BT but I find I’m actually forcing myself to watch even games where we’re involved. I haven’t made an attempt to find the commentary or a stream for any of our away games this season.

I’ve had more enjoyment watching Coalville Town play lately. Win, lose or draw I used to find going down the city a bit of a release from the stresses of life. Lately it feels like it’s adding to them.

I’ve been going for over forty years and there’s been some fantastic times but I’ve no enthusiasm for it at the moment.

1st time poster , this is how I feel about it and who ever said that they wanted music to drown out the crowd ?

I watch my lads play youth football and enjoy it far more..  maybe I’m just getting old and that’s combining with the passive performances over the last year to kill my enthusiasm

Yeah, I had months off and to be honest it was nice, not to say coming back to FT hasn’t been enjoyable as it’s great to see familiar names still on here in this forum of opinion, but honestly the direction of football into this elite mega money mess, and the last 18 months of Leicester City seemingly losing its identity has just been so draining, it’s really put me off football.

I just feel like football has been such a big part of me growing up and now I feel like there’s so many things more important that deserve my time. If the players can’t be bothered to make an effort why should I?

Exactly. they don't come and see me when I'm bad.

I’ve not read the whole of this thread so apologies if this has been said or even if I’m way off the mark but I’ve been saying that I’m falling out of love with elite football for a few years now.  The corruption that basically enables the Sky Sports 6 to do what they want and prevents anyone else from getting close to them is shocking.  There will never be another chance for a 5000-1 team to challenge them.  They introduced VAR to just add to the appallingly corrupt refereeing decisions.  The super league was a s**t show but while we all Kicked off about it they introduced the coefficient European qualification rules.  The new fifa fair play rules enable those 6 to spend what they want but no one else can spend anything like that amount.  I’ve said many times that I only go to the city now because my 2 boys love it, I actually prefer an afternoon at Coalville Town or Hinckley Utd.

I'm a fan of the NFL which like it or loathe it is a very successful entitiy. 32 teams and all of them have a genuine chance at glory. If only 2 or 3 teams could purchase all the elite players the model would not work

Ideally, a similar set up could be set up in the PL. Perhaps Sky and the like will eventually realise that they can make more money if things were evened up.

Ridiculous ticket prices

Away ends basically closed shops due to the priority system

Customers coerced into buying memberships (the price of which is scandal, this should be a nominal admin fee if anything)

Goal music

Volume turned up to 11 right until kick off

All of that before we get onto the industry as a whole, the odious amounts of money clubs pay players and blatant corruption throughout the sport, from Infantino and his pals at FIFA accepting blood money to allow a country like Qatar to host the World Cup, right through to the top clubs in Europe buying their way out of trouble (see Barca's dealings this summer).

That said, I have been to 3 non- league matches this season and it's been amazing, the standard is horrific but it's so refreshing to see people's passion for the club in their community.

Meeting up with mates for the football is one of the main reasons I go. A lot of things in this world have been spoilt by money/commercialism. Cricket has in my view. I used to love watching cricket on the BBC back in the day. I can barely name 5 England players now and that includes Jimmy Anderson. Don't let the football spoil a good day at the football as Jonny Vaughan used to say on Talksport. I try to laugh at some of the new things...like the fire boxes or whatever they're called but yeah, I agree, it's losing some of it's appeal. However, 2016 was not that long ago and I don't think the big clubs will always have their way. I hope not anyway.

The big clubs will have their way BECAUSE of 2016

Don’t give up Lee, I’ve enjoyed your posts for the last few years.

You can't admit that on here  lol
In all seriousness I do still follow Leicester daily but just general football i've lost interest in, I'm no longer interested in watching United vs Liverpool for example where in the past it was one of those games most neutrals looked forward to. Football is going down a very dangerous path and clubs like Leicester are very much a minority where the club is run in the interest of the fans and community. It's becoming Americanized very quickly and it's just not as enjoyable, but I'll look forward to sticking around here for a while yet :scarf:

I am certainly falling out of love with FT, half the posts seem to be written by folks with short memories and a dubious or highly selective grasp of what is known and what isn't.

I have little positive to say because we seem to be in a tailspin as a club, but adding to the toxic negativity on here seems pointless. I'll be back when bile abates.

Just remember that those who yell the loudest, are usually in the minority.

Ha ha, well I don’t post often but can’t resist looking at FT to see other city fans’ views. I’ve always found your posts passionate and honest, and if you’ve made a mistake you accept it with good grace and humour.

Thats a great point about Man U v Liverpool- up until only a few years ago I’d have enjoyed watching all of that fixture when I had Sky, but simply not interested in it any more- I don’t even search out the goals but just glance up if they happen to be on the news.
Anyway, long live FT, despite some of the crazy stuff. There’s still a lot of dry and clever Leicester wit.

Lets hope for a battling performance for the whole game today, and a least 1 point.

The sooner the 'crooked 6' fvck off and become part of the ESL (European Supercorrupt League)...the better!

The problem is as I see it , Sky should have no say or influence on football. They are just a media outlet. We all know they are agenda-driven and biased towards the so-called big clubs, with their pundits all coming from the top clubs' ex-players, and they have a monopoly on the games shown. They are cancer to football and will eventually eat themselves and football with it. The only way to stop them is to cancel subscriptions and starve them of cash, but that, unfortunately, won't happen enough.:dunno:

I'll never fall out of love with football. Not football the game. Maybe the premier League, or English football, or men's football, or some kind of subdivision of football.

I'm off to watch our local women's team in a preseason friendly this morning.

It's rodgers apart from the first 6 months where we were defensively sound the rest has been boring sideways football the FA cup while it's amazing we've won it lets not forget we were holding on for dear life,

Coupled with the fact he has no clue or won't change it for whatever reason and it's just started to become hard to watch.

When you see VAR decisions like the ones yesterday, like the Barnes goal last week, like some of the shockers we had last season, 2 of which were against our opponents today, is it any wonder we feel like this?

FFP and VAR are actively fixing leagues so the money clubs get their super league by stealth, and it's not even stealthily done, it's blatant. The more games I watch, the more I'm fed up with it, throw in what we've been like for the last 18 months, christ!

Would the English football pyramid suffer if the super league happened / happens? For a time, yes. Would it be better for it in the long run if the correct reforms were introduced from the beginning, yes.

I love the match day but I have slowly fell out of love with it, especially since Covid. Not being able to attend games was annoying but I got used to that very quickly and I even contemplated not bothering renewing my ST. Glad I did though, I still enjoy it, even if the football is shit.
