Troubles In Leicester

Recommended Posts

Started in May with an attack on a Muslim youth - no arrests were made.

There was then 2 India vs Pakistan cricket matches which really ignited everything.

After the first one which india won Indians came out in numbers on the streets celebrating but that then turned into chants of things like ‘death to Pakistan’ and then later into mobs attacking a lone Sikh man on belgrave road in front of police.

A week later and there was the second match between india and Pakistan and this time Pakistan won - there was mild celebrations from Pakistan fans which isn’t anything out of the ordinary (happens every time the teams play) but the streets around Belgrave road were lined with Indians baying for blood of anyone celebrating Pakistan’s victory. There was a heavy police presence around the area compared to the week before where police were caught completely off guard, seemingly not knowing there was a game taking place.

Around 2am that night in the Green lane area of the city, on Bridge road a group of around 30 Indian men attacked a Muslim youth outside his house, leaving him with multiple injuries and hospitalising him. Again no arrests were made.

This led to Muslims around the city calling for action and coming on to the streets in the Green lane area to protect their people and to show strength in numbers over the next 10 or so days. Police were straight on to this with a heavy presence each night and using section 34 and 35 for dispersal orders etc.

All seemed to have calmed down again until Saturday when around 6pm a mob of about 200+ Hindu youths all masked up and many carrying weapons marched down from belgrave road and through Green lane road attacking innocent Muslims along the way and throwing glass bottles etc. They were led by police on this March through the city with no thought of the consequences. It wasn’t until later that evening that it was realised 2 full coaches of these thugs had been transported from Ealing in London. Police denied any knowledge of it but as they led the March the public were not having any of it.

Again this led to Muslims coming out in full force and what then happened on Saturday night would probably be classed as close to a riot. People decided to take matters into their own hands and hunt these thugs down and it ended up with both parties on Belgrave road with police trying to keep them apart.

The thought amongst most people is that in this City Hindus and Muslims have lived together peacefully for years on end but the BJP/RSS Hindutva ideology which is stemming from India is what is causing the issues. Youths are coming over from there and radicalising Hindus who are trying to bring that on to our streets.

This is the mob on Saturday marching through a majority Muslim area looking for trouble. This is what ignited Saturday nights chaos.

Not what I've been told and seen. In August India beat Pakistan and there were celebrations on Belgrave Road (predominantly a Hindu and pro Indian area). A few days later Pakistan beat India and Pakistani supporters came to Belgrave Road and not just celebrated, but started chanting anti Indian slogans and calling Modi a dog. This led to skirmishes and a Hindu home celebrating a festival had eggs thrown at it. When the family members came out to protest this, a man and woman were attacked. There have been skirmishes since then culminating in Hindus congregating and walking through Green Lane Road (a predominantly Muslim area) chanting pro Hindu slogans. There were violent skirmishes and one Muslim youth got injured. Muslims then put out a call to arms, spreading false stories about Mosques being attacked and Hindus trying to kidnap Muslim girls. In fact it was a Hindu temple that was attacked and their flag burnt, whilst police looked on doing nothing. Plenty of videos around showing this.

Anyway this led to coaches full of Muslim men coming from Birmingham looking for trouble, which has exacerbated the problem. I've got quite a few Indian supporting friends, so watched abit of the 1st game with them on Belgrave Road. It was certainly a raucous atmosphere but pretty jovial.

The cricket, despite what some have been saying has had little to do with this situation. There has been dust ups after the cricket but Leicester’s Hindu and Muslim population is largely Indian, we don’t have a major Pakistani presence.

India have beaten Pakistan many times before. Pakistan have beaten India many times before. This sort of continuous violence has not happened.

You’re right about outside influence - the arrests alone show that. Both sides seem to have coach loads of people coming in. Wembley, Birmingham, Manchester etc.

Not from the video's of what I have seen of the first win for India. There are videos of some shouting "death to Pakistan"

Like others have said - this is a small minority of people from both sides who want to promote unrest. Both Hindu's and Muslims have lived in harmony over decades in Leicester. This is a time for unity and not division caused by some disruptive, brainwashed people.

Completely wrong. The cricket was a separate issue altogether, pakistan and india played against each other last year in the world cup and there was no issues like this.  This is a new wave of hindu youth coming to the city and bringing their racist ideology's with them from india, simple. You just have to look up on twitter the videos of the demonstrations in india where they are chanting death to all muslims and it is led by their prime minister Modi. We are now seeing them try and implement this in the UK which is why hindus and muslims in leicester have not had any problems before this. Unlike india where they outnumber the muslims 100/1 they are going to get a reaction here in Leicester which is why the trouble is occurring. Muslims will not go out of their way to attack hindus without a good reason whatever you may believe.

You say this but the only religious place attacked and caught on camera was a Hindu temple, where Muslim men climbed onto the roof and took down and burned the flags. Police watched apparently helpless to do anything.  Imagine if that had happened to a mosque, there would've been pandemonium with retribution being carried out up and down the country. It's hard to take the moral high ground when people within the muslim community are doing this, whilst at the same time blaming Hindus for religious bigotry.

This happened at the height of the tension on Saturday. Police kettled the Hindu mob into a car wash at the bottom of belgrave road and kettled the Muslims directly in front of the temple. Not condoning the removal of the flag from the wall of the temple however it was an isolated incident captured by the Hindu mob on camera and used for propaganda. Majority of people tried to stop the lone individual from doing what he did as it is against the religion of Islam to attack any religious sites but in the heat of the moment it happened. Also a key thing to note here is that this happened Saturday night, long after mobs of Hindutva youth came on coaches from Ealing in London and terrorised the Muslim community during the day. Not being funny but wouldn’t you come out to defend your people?

@K1FOX this is the exact time we need to show tolerance and stand as one Leicester.  Not inflame the situation by joining in.

Both sets of yobs are to blame and highlighting a one dimensional view and quoting half -truths can only heighten tensions.

Truth is both sides are full of morons and need to stop before the likes of Farage use this as fodder to push his "diversity is evil" agenda. They are just going to make it worse for BAME people.

How is either of these comments helpful ?? Actually justifying actions which the majority of both communities have spent the day condemning.

Thats the one I was sent by friends. Happened an hour or 2 ago. No sign of this calming down.

Just gonna put this out there that we should be very careful about what's shared and what's attributed to whom. The video Micky shared is from 5Pillars:

whose editor is a known islamist propagandist on twitter.
