I think there is something about the fact he was at his best for us a) in a two up top b) without fans in the stadium. We'll never know if he'd have taken that chance vs Spurs for 3-1 if the fans weren't there. 

 

He's such a confidence player - his stats at one point for goals and assists compared with Messi - but the current system doesn't lend itself to helping the central striker as they move into midfield regularly with the midfielders often more advanced. 

 

Even when you take all that into account, he has been disappointing this season. 

 

The talent is there, just don't think he's going to be a reliable player for us.

Not really Alverez plays with him which links up as a two. We don’t play like that.

Not last season when they won the treble. They played with twin 8s (normally gundogan, KDH or Silva) and wingers supporting the striker and then one anchoring midfielder (Rodri)

 

Only significant difference was they pushed a CB into midfield rather than using and inverted full back like we do

Still like him but can’t argue he’s been massively under performing, just hope he finds some form as would love him to do well just isn’t happening currently.

Nacho is just a one goal every 4 games kind of striker when you average his stats out.  He will never be any better than that.  He has very rare purple patches and we purchased him on the back of one at Man City.  They knew what they were selling us.  

 

In his main job of scoring goals, he really isn't and hasn't been that good in the 5 odd years we've had him.

The most disappointing thing about Nacho this season for me isn't his goal return. It's that, on paper, the role Enzo asks his strikers to play suits Nacho to a T. Dropping deep,  linking MF with the wingers and #8s running into space beyond him. That's what he's always excelled at but it's not working for him this year. 

 

He's as close as we have to a striker who suits that role. He really should be making that spot his.
