My apologies, we seem to have got at cross purposes.  My point was basically referring to the comment about "My view is that we should want a society where life outcomes are based on the skills and efforts of the participants, not the wealth of their parents." If that was only directed at super-rich people, not 'ordinary' rich people, it's a different matter.

It was directed at having a two tier system for public services mainly.

 

I don't think anybody minds the ordinary rich being rich. If you've worked for it that's fair enough. It's the billionaire class that make their money from use of specially built financial products, large shareholders and CEOs who allow job losses and pay restraint for the masses while they get pay rises which most people can see problems with.

New jobs for a few of the Leicester MPs. Jonathan Ashworth (Leicester South) the new Shadow Paymaster General, and Liz Kendall (Leicester West) takes his place as Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary.

Which years?!

I also went to Stonehill/Longslade. My only memories of those days are the fencing lessons, afternoon crumpets and the annual ski trips to St Moritz.

They stopped making that type of aircraft in 1981. I know they were probably built to a better standard, but if you went for a drive in a MKII Escort you wouldn't be completely confident of completing your journey, would you?

I mean, you've been on one exchange trip with an exclusive Swiss boarding school, you've been on them all really, haven't you?

 

I took my place at the seat of all knowledge between 1989 and 1993, incidentally the years when Kylie Minogue was at her hottest, which I don't think was a coincidence

Never been to one and  might be unpopular but I don’t see a problem with those gender reveal parties. They’re just friends and family celebrating a new life. It’s no different to a christening, wedding, birthday party, Christmas, retirement party or anything else really. A lot of it is just an excuse to just get friends and family together

 

It’s sad about the pilot, but that’s a stupid stunt gone wrong. I don’t see what it has to do with the event really. Those kind of careless stunts that go wrong happen already all the time for Xmas, new years, birthday parties, Halloween, Valentine’s Day, weddings, retirement parties or just Friday night drinks.

Whatever the event is was a stupid stunt having an aircraft flying so low at what looked like almost directly above a crowd

Whilst I agree that gender reveals are the height of crassness and vanity, I don't think you can blame them for this death. Clearly there was something structurally wrong with the plane and if hadn't been this pilot at this event it would have been the next pilot at the next event.

 

Saying that not one of the guests gave a shit about the plane breaking into pieces and the safety of the pilot inside. Instead celebrating the random outcome of a 50/50 biological chance.

There are a number of elements that make them beyond crass not least the fact that gender is rather more nuanced than pink/blue.

 

Ask yourself what are they actually celebrating? The genitals of their unborn child.

 

And if you really do care whether you have a boy or a girl then recording your reaction to your unborn disappointment for them to see when they are old enough to understand is not a good idea.

 

But essentially you are right it's just a reason to celebrate, it just really seems to have captured the imagination of the brain-dead morons. Just Google gender reveal gone wrong for stories of crocodiles, explosives, wildfires and just a catalogue of waste, littering and thoughtlessness.

Ha. It sounds like you were in the year below me, which would mean we attended the sixth form centre at the same time. I actually really enjoyed those final two years, which I can’t really say of the two that preceded them…😳
