XL Bully is a dog like no other. It has been engineered to damage others, whether dog, animal or human. Any dog can bite, but being bitten by a Labrador or XL Bully is two different things. I’m a dog person, have a large dog, very comfortable around animals, ridden horses from a young age, dealt with cows and other animals, but these XL Bullys scare the life out of me. I now walk my dog at a different time to avoid these animals, they are killers and Legislation needs to be introduced. Every dog has the potential to be nasty, even if it’s well trained and socialised, but these have the potential to kill within 30 seconds.

Really have to question the motive of anyone wanting to own anything like this breed. Hope the new legislation goes through ASAP

Definitely a case of educating owners and legislation changes for potential breeders of any type of dog. It should be a privilege rather than right to own a dog.

Are you actually in Western Park? I am, and I've not seen any of these other than the two in Braunstone but if anyone's walking these closer to home or in the park itself I'd be concerned as my kid has started going out on his own.  Although I can teach him to be wary in his interactions with humans and be careful crossing the road, there's not much I can do to prepare him for a 150 lb devil dog trying to bite his face off

Yes within the actual Western Park( I don't live in the park, the dogs were), the dogs come from the Park Rise estate and New Parks (not assumptions but limited interaction with owners) from what I can gather. Those dogs weren't too bad, but I will avoid them still if I'm out walking my dog. They were on the smaller size for an XL Bully, however there is one that I've seen a few times when I've not been with my dog and going for a run through the park (usually lunchtime), it's huge, I would estimate at 65kg minimum, although it was on the lead. For context, I used to walk my dog between 8am and 9am, but now this is always done before 7am, because of their increased presence. However, there's one guy who occasionally cycles with his XL Bully down through Letchworth Road way and it's off the lead, liver/tan brown colour XL Bully it is, that's the only one I've seen off the lead outside the park.

Oh for FFS, they are everywhere then, right in the places where my kid goes.

As for walking them off the lead....you'd like to think that owners would be a bit more careful about not freaking everyone out with all the bad press but I've not got high hopes that would be typical of the mindset

It's bad boy top boy wanna be gangsta who have these dogs.

I was unfortunate  enough to have to visit Aston in Birmingham  a couple of months ago and saw about 3 all with gangs of bad boys.

I'm like Bellend where my lad is now going out to play with his mates. If these come to any adult your in for it, let alone a 10 year old.

Get them off the streets.

The dog off lead example on Letchworth Road is a rare occasion, but when I have seen it, it sticks in the mind because it's so blatantly inappropriate! On the park, the baseball field and the bits nearer to New Parks Boulevard are where I've encountered the dogs. I have never seen them on the bottom road fields, or by the bandstand. It's right to be cautious because these are scary animals, but thankfully those bits of the park seem to be alright. I hope your son is able to continue using the park because it's a cracking open space to grow up near to, and reasonably safe for youngsters! My caution is also for my dog, although at 90kg and 6ft, I would also struggle with these dogs.

See plenty of videos of them on Twitter and Reddit dragging adults around and not taking any notice of the people hitting them to try and get them to let go

You have to pretty much kill them to get them to give up or let go

It isn't like they go for just 1 person and thats it either, they just keep going

I remember a video going arund of a couple of them having a go at a police horse as well

Highly likely none of these owners will be sliding off the Goldman Sachs grad scheme.

I don't get the appeal at all of owning any kind of dog like this tbh. I'd support the ban

I'm going to have a chat with him about it and just make him aware. What you've said is really helpful, and gives a bit more of a sense of perspective. It's not like they're on every street corner

This is really annoying and this

Why do folk use their phone in portrait mode when filming with it.

I recently had the job of transferring some old camcorder tape recordings to DVD. The 'cameraman' had a habit of turning the camcorder sideways on, when they thought that the vertical field of view needed to be increased. Maybe they thought it was a good idea - but it's absolutely no fun having turn your head sideways to watch the recordings!

They don't solve all problems that is for sure.  And what do you do with the existing dogs?

How common are the XL bullys?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen one in Leicestershire, however I live out in the sticks a bit more where it’s largely Collies, Yorkies, Spaniels, Cocapoos and the occasional Shepherd!

Put them down.

Sorry if that sounds mean or cruel but these creatures shouldn’t exist.

I know two people with them and have seen quite a few more. They aren't the type you'd see out on a walk much though, more round parks/with their owners at Sunday league games etc

Edit: in Leicestershire

Yeah sorry, these dogs are killers. They should be banned and culled. After the ban and a grace period anyone found in possession of one or breeding them should be given harsh punishments, too, none of this £100 fine nonsense. Proper, unlimited fine levels.

Everyone in this thread recognises the danger they pose. From crossing the road to noticing how brutal they are or can be. Not to sound like I'm a Karen in FB comments, but if we don't do something it'll take the death/deaths of children for serious action to happen, and idk about you but I'd rather avoid that.
