What would class it as a World War III?

Reading this:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ongoing_armed_conflicts

It’s surprising just how many ongoing conflicts we have worldwide currently.

It’s not ww3. It’s a small scale regional conflict that flares up every decade or so, only on this occasion it’s flared up more than usual and the global media are treating it like the apocalypse.

Can someone more educated on this topic post where to read up on the divide? I tried after all the free Palestine posts (honestly, after the FA Cup final when Hamza showed the flag), but it wasn’t as clear cut to me. Now I live in the states I’m seeing a tonne of Jewish colleagues come out in anger. Are both of these things related?

Whats the TLDR here?

If it’s true Sunil

the first casualty of war etc etc …………

If it has happened then you’d hope that those responsible would be brought to justice.  But I doubt that will happen given that the boy has clearly been taken from the scene to be treated and those who did it won’t come forward.  Wouldn’t expect that we’ll ever find out the truth on this.

I saw the video on social media shortly after posting. It's not a pleasant sight :(

ITV News did a good summary of the history earlier this evening.

I think this may be reasonably unbiased and factual

Some people don't realise how lucky they are in living in the United Kingdom.

And the reality is that our imperial past has really helped our current higher standard of living. That and being an island has made us tougher to invade in more modern history.

Funny thing is that during the time it was going on many of the population was living in miserable conditions

Probably the most significant improvement in living standards in Britain happened immediately after the end of the Empire

What with the ever growing unrest and complicated international involvements in a variety of conflicts - are we on the cusp of WW3.

I ask out of curiosity. I'm not knowledgeable enough.

Speaking personally and subjectively, I don't think so, purely because WW3 would involve the major players against each other and all of them know how that inevitably ends - devastating mutual loss for all of them. And thankfully, all of them are interested in self-preservation enough for them to not trigger that purely because they can.

There's going to be a lot of regional conflict, but then that's hardly new and stopping that has been a failure of the powerful international community for a long time now.

Edit: Of course, if large tracts of land across the globe become uninhabitable and basic resources become much more costly as a result of increasing temperatures, then that might have an unpleasant effect on the landscape.

I wasn't suggesting it was a good trade off.

No I didn't think you were. More a comment on the lives lost that did not see the upturn in standards. You can imagine the voters in 1945 thinking we want change and not to go back to the 30s

Hence the shift from conservatives - who had led the country through the wars - to a more socialist government.

So now they're crying victim?

I'll also gladly ignore any articles or posts that are by AlJazeera. Only two days ago they had a man on air who proudly proclaimed that the Palestinian people will never stop fighting as long as there are still Jews living in Israel. What can you expect from a station which is owned by Qatari royalty, the same royalty who harbours the Hamas leadership in luxury, away from their supposed home

And I take it you ignore Sky news etc the same way too because we all know who owns them and which side of the fence majority of the media are on..

The most pronounced social mobility was in the wake of the two wars, was it not?

I don't think it was because of the world wars, even though it was at about the same time.  Increased social mobility was because of increased wealth among the poorer people.  My grandparents were among the pioneers among people who worked in the cotton mills, in buying their own home via a mortgage, with electricity throughout and an inside bathroom with hot and cold running water.  That was 1926.

Sorry Lionator, I was responding to someone else that asked about us creeping toward a world war.
