Victor Kristiansen Officially Signs

Just mentioned it in the post match thread, but the kid has played a handful of games, has moved to a new country and only turned 20 in December. He's bound to be slightly inconsistent, but standard from some of our fan base, that at the sign of any inconsistency they have to go jump on it

Well it’s only fair seeing as our own 21 year old fa cup winning left back has already been deemed not good enough.

Smith in the post match comments mentioned that he thought VK struggled handling some of opposition in the first half in keeping up with them which is why he made the change.

He mentioned he thought Thomas came on and played well, we'll see if VK gets the next match.

His work rate and running are top notch, he had the fire in games when the rest of the team did not but he sometimes gets caught out of position and wants to get forward vs covering back. I think he'll be a great player but he's young at the moment and will learn.

I know that I’m adding to the JJ on VK’s post but JJ was very good for 4/5 month patch.

Before that he was being outmuscled by diagonals on a weekly basis and quite frankly looked a League One player before that period.

I would have loved to see how his form continued as he definitely improved but feel that we’re being a tad OTT in some of the JJ praise.

Chilwell as an example clearly has a much higher ceiling (I’m aware that’s potentially against the grain thinking on here)

I don’t think we’ve missed an injured player more than JJ this season.

Have we though?

Don't get me wrong, Thomas was struggling BIG time and needed for his own sanity/confidence to come out of the firing line hence why VK was signed but let’s not re-write history, JJ this season was average at best.

I’m pretty sure 90% on here questioned his England call up on current form.

It’s a bigger reflection on the awful signing that’s Bertrand, how Thomas hasn’t kicked on from his initial promise more than missing JJ more than any other injured player surely?

Can't really criticise one player for flaws in his game and form then talk about Chilwell having a higher ceiling. Because surely that means Chilwell has to improve to hit his higher ceiling, so why isn't ot feasible that's exactly what Justin did that season.

Smiths public criticism won’t help the lad! All he needed to say was “it was tactical.”

He did look a little lost and jumped underneath a couple of far post headers.

Maybe the new system confused him but Terry will soon sort him out.

Let’s not forget his lack of experience and who he was up against.
Give him a break!

Agree that Justin looked out of his depth at the start. And I think Chilwell is quality and was just the classic case of our fans going in on a youth team product. Feels like injuries at Chelsea have held him back.

But, Justin's performances the year Chilwell left were far beyond Chilwell's peak performances. He was our best player that season, before he got injured. He played left back, right back, left wing back, right wing back, left of a 3 man defence and right of a 3 man defence and he was fantastic in every position. He's good with both feet and great going forward and defensively. Not been at the same level since his injury but was showing signs of getting back to that level before Brendan ran him into the ground.

Probably looked like a league one player because he was quite literally a player we had bought from League One in his first season in the Prem, it was always going to be a massive learning curve for him but he stepped up massively in the following season

I had never seen Chilwell be better for us than how Justin was playing for us up until his first big injury, and Justin was only getting better at the time

Crazy! No way. He works hard! Steams up and down that line and is always looking for the overlap. Just because he has one sub par game doesn't make him a bad player. He's got the drive and aggression that Thomas can only dream about. He's miles the upgrade on Thomas.

But he isn't at the moment  Thomas' performance compared to VK was absolutely miles ahead.

What VK has (and totally in agreement with you here) is a fantastic engine, more pace and strength, which means that he can make more mistakes than Thomas can and get away with it as he has the physical attributes to bail him out.

VK could end up being a top full back or he may just be a very bang average one. It's really hard to get a gauge on just how much potential he has at the moment. Some time in a vaguely competent side would answer that!

.. JJ was struggling with the diaganol ball overhead, time and time again he was getting caught out by it and his defending at the back post!!!

Chilwell did struggle with the same problem but got on top of it and he just needed to be more away of his ability to be a threat in the oppositions box, that was the area he needed to work on.

JJ had picked up prior to his injury.

I was trying to intentionally be funny with the league one comment to be fair mate.

Chilwell is and will always be considered the better specialist LB but JJ can play in a greater variety of roles so he has that BUT I still feel that when the dust has settled on JJ’s LCFC career that it will be more about ifs and buts as he has been injured more than he was this world class player IMO.

Totally agree.

I do find it interesting that Chilwell goes to Chelsea with players worth millions yet he often takes corners for them yet never tried for us.

I got infuriated at Chilwell at times but think how much better off we’d be right now if we had him playing for us.

Well, he was rubbish yesterday apparently. Brighton turned him inside out. Benny is now and always has been a better attacker than defender.

To be fair Brighton are making most players/managers look rubbish this season.

De Zerbi seems to have struck a perfect balance of possession but also meaningful and direct football with it too.

Kristiansen is a better full back, Thomas a better wing back. Simples!

Thomas can barely run, he is NOT a better wing back.

He was out of position so many times yesterday with Walker bombing past him on numerous occasions but for some reason Mahrez kept cutting inside.
