Summer 2023...

Recommended Posts

Almost all the players who have joined this club since Rodgers came have been hailed as game changers on here by somebody or other. We are now fielding teams 75% of whom predate Rodgers. We have found very few answers , if any, in the transfer market. Why should that change? In my opinion the only ones who have done a decent job are defenders , Justin and Castagne have done pretty well. Faes and Souttar may yet. We have a very dodgy record and if we carry on this way , we could end up in even more serious trouble.

Reiss Nelson out of contract soon could fit on our RW may be looking for more minutes.

Kayky also a young RW option.

Gnonto as a LW option

Kyle Walker-Peters

Lavia before Manchester City have a chance with his buy back clause in 2024

What do others think?

Nelson - a good shout.

Kayky - Too young/developing.  Will be loaned out asp.

Gnonto - Decent.  But backup to Barnes.

KWP - No thanks. Justin is better.

Lavia - Done nothing for the Saints / overrated.

I’d take nelson and Gnonto 100%.

Yeah I agree with Kayky he is a great development project though buy and loan back to the club he is at then OHL

Gnonto I agree because at the moment we have no real cover for our wingers and able to develop further and could potentially take over if we lose Barnes down the Line depending on his development.

Nelson is a brilliant fit can ease him in with a Kelechi and Nelson impact sub for first few games and earn real minutes.

I agree with KWP point hopefully JJ with a 3 year age advantage can develop further along with Kristiansen

Opoku looking promising will fit in this attacking line up

Lavia I agree too maybe have a look how he ends up in a few years but for now a pass maybe he needs a loan away from Southampton in a foreign league.

Macaulay Langstaff - Notts County

44 Appearances

41 Goals

6 assists

Although he is 26 years old he is still with the risk and wouldn't cost too much and could squeeze a decent amount of seasons out of him

Be interesting to see what happens to Callum Wilson, seeing as if Newcastle do go on to make the champions league they may look to invest in a couple of new strikers. Not sure if Maddie was to go to the North East a bit of an exchange deal with cash could be arranged, £65-70million + Wilson.

He’ll stay. Perfect second striker to Isak.

Might be worth a go as mentioned, may not cost to much and could be the next Jamie Vardy.

We won't get 65-70mill for Maddison without Wilson thrown in. Then you're getting a striker who can probably be relied on for about half a season through injury. He stays at Newcastle, they'll get one more striker in at best and he'll move down the pecking order.

See we're being linked with James McAtee again. Yes please

Just have to be careful we don't slip down the same rabbit hole Southampton did, thinking they were on a winner signing 4 Man City kids.

Yeah, you can't just hoover up academy players and expect them all to be PL quality from the off. However, it does make you wonder if we stay up whether we'd be better trying to build a squad that if you had your own way you'd build if you were in the Championship and aiming to piss it and kick on.

I'd focus a lot of recruitment on the best young domestic players from academies and Championship, with some value for money recruitment from South America, Belgium and Scandinavia.

Never heard of him.   But 42 goals in league five of the pyramid equals 8-10 at most in the Prem.   At 26..pushing 27, probably not the next Vardy.

....surely the price goes down if Wilson is thrown in!!!

Massive summer ahead and the first decision we need to get right is the manager and then a close second *should be* the DofF to revamp the recruitment strategy.

Stay up and we need someone who can work under a budget and  potential transfers will want to come and play for - buying into a project of getting back into Europe over a few seasons.

Go down and we need someone who is able to clean up the mess of relegation / large turnover in the playing squad and rebuild.

Some big decisions ahead that we must get right.

The likes of Brentford and Brighton show it’s where we target transfer spend (markets / player attributes) rather  than how much we are spending.

Quite possibly needs one more season in the Championship (perfect if we go down) but Adam Wharton at Blackburn is getting rave reviews.

Ric I see rebuilding our midfield as our biggest challenge next season (with Madders, and possibly Barnes exiting, Ndidi a shell of the player we first saw, KDH struggling etc).

Do you see any potential targets who could transition to top EPL performers like Madders where there is value to be had?
