No holes here. I stand by what I say he’s been crap for us. Please do not put words into my mouth. Time to face facts…and stop hiding in fantasy land.

You said he was crap in all the leagues you'd seen him in, then when it was pointed out he'd done very well in Austria you said you only judge players based on the league they're currently in. When asked if that meant you'd actually only seen him be crap in one league you said no you'd also seen him in the Europa League (where he scored 5 goals in 6 games). Those aren't words being put in your mouth, those are all things you have said.

"He's been crap for us" is a fair enough point of view to hold even if I wouldn't necessarily agree with it but "he's been crap in every league I've seen him in" if you've ever watched him anywhere other than the Premier League (and if you haven't then why say it?) is very obviously nonsense.

:appl: Thank you for summarising what my response would have been to that post 👍

Might have been good good in Austria, but absolute rubbish in England for the money we paid

Rubbish is probably he bit strong, was always going to be a massive transition for him and he’s hardly come in to a stable club has he? We’ve not made it easy for him

Why?

Because our current operatives in the 8/10 positions are a technically average, one footed but hard working KDH, a decent but ponderous and slow Praet and a Plonker in Ndidi.

The closest we have to Tens are the new Turkish kid who will be better at RW and Casadei who is a proper 8.

A genuine, creative 10 is much needed.

He doesn’t fit the style. He isn’t technically gifted enough to play this football. He’s an off the shoulder forward and at that, he’s more than likely bloody good.

We’ve never the type of football to suit him and most likely never will.

Its basically like owning a baseball bat to play cricket.

He could drop into that role though and give us more. We don’t need daka

I'm not saying we need Daka. I'm saying I'd rather have players suited to the position we plan on playing them. Selling Daka and signing a creative 8 makes more sense than using the money to buy a 10 and playing him as an 8.

I actually think the issue is more that the system is miles off being implemented properly - Or 10-20% as I think was mentioned the other day.

So when we get to the final third we aren’t getting players in on goal often enough with defence splitting passes, which is where Daka would thrive.

Apologies for using Man City as an example, but they always got Augero in behind with quality final balls.

Because we’re not particularly good tactically at the moment as it’s still early, it’s pointless playing with someone like Daka, or even Vardy.

Much better going with a #10 type of player who can help build the attacks we’re struggling to maintain. Almost like we don’t need an out an out striker at this point in time…but I’m sure we will eventually.

I was thinking similarly earlier. A false 9 who can press makes quite a lot of sense in the way we are playing. Iheanacho is pretty good with linkup, but poor at pressing. Maybe we could find a bit of a specialist.

I’m coming round to thinking that Maresca will be looking at playing how Liverpool did when they went with front 3 of Salah, Firmino and Mane.

None were out and out strikers but could all link play, interchange positions along the wings or up front and all had a good work rates pressing/defending

Is he eventually going to move to this type of system with players that fit that style more than a Daka or Vardy who are looking to sit on the shoulders of the last defender?

Hence why Kel is preferred for his link play and has better play in and around the 18 yard box.

The thing is, in the Championship, we don’t need 3 forward.

It’s balancing the wage bill and we need more balance in midfield.

I think we do but not 3 as expensive as Vardy, Nacho and Daka. If we could sell Daka and bring someone like Leaburn from Charlton, one for the future, that’d be good.

I think £15m is a reasonable price for Patson, based on the form he’s shown in the Premier League. I genuinely can’t see anyone stumping up £25m for him (other than maybe a Saudi club.)

Actually 🤔 he'd probably be pretty great in the Saudi league and he'll go for around 40m..... they've got millions to throw around

Yeh, playing for a lesser Saudi club that sits deep he’d be great. Long clearance over the top and him running on to it is his best attribute alongside his tidy finishing.
