And we recouped almost half of what we paid for Akinbiyi. I imagine similar thoughts are going through our heads now, as went through John Elsom's head then. There's a big difference between possibly picking up 10-15m down the line for a player who, in the meantime, might be useful for us, and having to splash out 5m or so on cancelling his contract. Or he could just run down the rest of his contract, collecting his wages, leaving for free and offering absolutely nothing.
