Crystal Palace away - Match thread

Castagne, Ndidi and Daka all need to up their games considerably if they are to warrant being selected over Ricardo, Mendy and Iheanacho. You’d like to trust the manager has seen enough in training to make these calls but who trusts Rodgers to do anything right these days?

Wilf was back to his near best at Brentford. If he plays well for 10 games, we probably stay up

Let’s face it boys and girls … we are all massively invested in this one.  One of our biggest matches in years, and not along newfangled lines of “win or miss Europe”.   It’s the bad old win or be screwed scenario.

It’s no use hiding behind the couch … and it won’t do to just moan and say it’s good as lost before we kick off, we don’t care.  That’s both weak and a lie.

It’s huge, and it’s two hours to ditch any agendas and get behind them, wherever you are, especially you good folks in the away stand.

Is it okay if I listen to the radio with a cushion over my ears? 🥴

I’m starting to think KDH isn’t as good as I hoped he would be.

He’s a modern day Robbie Savage

thats pretty much how I see him, however that does a little disservice to Robbie Savage. and also KDH is quite good enough right now !

The Wilf or Mendy 'double pivot,' aversion is complete codswallop. They are entirely different players.

If structured properly, Mendy should sit deep as a tidy, safe option for all defenders when in possession and to cover holes if the opposing team break. He's positionally outstanding.

Wilf SHOULD be 10 yards further up nearer to madders destroying - not for defensive purposes -  but to start quick turnovers

Exactly.

At one point Wilf was arguably the best DM in the league - his form has gone out the window particularly under Rodgers, but we know what he's capable of and if we're tweaking things to get the best out of him again, it's a no-brainer. Mendy is a different kind of option in that position and will be equally useful, but if Ndidi is showing any signs of getting back in form then we need to encourage that.

Reasonably happy with the lineup. Ricardo being dropped is odd as he's had more rest than Castagne, but presumably the thinking is that Ricardo against tired legs is a very dangerous prospect. Iheanacho for Daka could be questioned, but the latter had a good international break whereas Nacho got hooked at half time losing to guinea bissau...
