It also has to be considered that the man that replaced him has pushed them on. So was Potter underachieving a little at Brighton with the group of players at his disposal? Or maybe it’s just very fortunate that they replaced a “talented” manager with a even more talented manager.

If we have to go forward having lost our better players, and having to rely on the younger squad players (we won't be able to buy in much talent if relegated) then Bielsa may be an option. Bit of a gamble though.

This isn't actually true. This season in the 6 Premier League games he was there Potter had them winning  2.17 points per match. De Zerbi is lower at 1.50.

6 games isn’t a huge sample size when comparing the opposite number over 20

Yup for the rest of the season it would be really great, I remember the Leicester players said they really appreciated his knowledge and input when they were in the run up to the great escape....he could be our Kompany in motivating the players

Anyone suggesting either an ex-player, ex-manager or some has-been "relegation saving specialist" needs their head checking. The coming summer is the most important in recent years in terms of a rebuild, and you need a manager at the helm fitting to that challenge. Someone who can build an identity and a club. Would you really trust Rafa Benitez or Chris Wilder with this? Because if you appoint them and they keep us up, they'd be the ones in charge and we'd be right back in this position next year. Stowell and Sadler should have enough of a fresh approach (especially Stowell based on his previous caretaking experience here) to keep us up, purely on the methods of not being Rodgers and unleashing the unquestionable talent in the squad. A couple of wins to see us through to survival, and then go all out for Hutter/Potter (or an equivalent young, hungry manager willing to build his reputation and club) in the summer.

 

But for the love of god please stay away from Pearson/Allerdyce/Benitez et al.

You're assuming he would want that position though. He's a goalkeeping coach by trade, seems to get on with the players and has a history of caretaking for a spell - successfully - and then stepping aside for the new man to take charge. Sounds more beneficial than getting Benitez for 18 months

Totally agree it's a very small sample size, but it's all we have. There's nothing to say it wouldn't have carried on (or at least been as good or better than De Zerbi).

 

But does show that when people say De Zerbi is doing better than Potter. It doesn't tell the full story.

 

I originally thought the same as you. Seems it really was a bad decision for Potter to leave when he did.

 

Also when players start leaving and have to be replaced; there's no guarantee De Zerbi will be able to replicate what Potter and the recruitment team he had achieved.

A little oversight in Hutter’s style of football for anyone interested. Personally think Hutter’s style of football is very excited but will need time to get used too. 
 

For that reason I would be interested in the summer but not for the final games we have remaining.

Someone like Cambiasso I think would be very risky at this point, might be an interesting one to possibly look at if we went down though
