Yeah I’m not sure being quiet is necessarily a positive for the role he hasn’t.

Gives off poor connotations

I’ll tell you what. And I haven’t checked but I bet if someone wrote a love fest article on others in the role. People like Ashworth, Edu, Wilcox, Richard Hughes, Monchi etc. (and fully respect these are some leaders in the role, not enough knowledge to know of some up coming ones), after 10 plus years in the role, the input for a publication like Athletic wouldn’t be two ex youth team players. It would be people who work with them. Either internally or externally. There is an element of “wheeling and dealing”in this role. But for that to work, you need to have the respect of peers. Neither our owner nor our DOF do. Which is why we suffer on loading and off-loading players.

Third manager to make a dig about progress of signings. It’s taken Cooper all of two months.

It suggests to me they are given expectations which can’t be kept

Yep, Coops sounded very frustrated in his post-match interview yesterday. Welcome to Leicester, Steve. Get used to the frustration.

Shunning the limelight is having a desk job in an insurance firm. A Director of Football at a Premier League club should reasonably be expected to speak publicly at least a couple of times a season.

Interestingly enough Mladen Sormaz, now Barnsley’s DoF, is writing a semi-regular column in their local mag. They’re a good outside bet to go up automatically imo

Compare and contrast with Tuesday evening’s post match interview

Tues evening :  sounded like deals being sorted out

Fri evening:  if we don’t get deals over the line then I won’t complain and we’ll just get on with it

Poor bloke, he's gone from having 20 odd signings, few of which were his choice thrust upon him to being promised signings but getting few.

It's largely to appease fans, their main complaint has been the clubs communication to the fans which has been a bit of an OG for a town based club like Barnsley, the hierarchy have dropped the ball a couple of times over recent years so it's an attempt to build bridges. Unfortunately a lot of what Mladen says isn't reflective of what's actually going on behind the scenes.

Edu at Arsenal, Monchi at Villa, Kevin Thelwell at Everton, Begiristain at Man City. Paul Barber (CEO) at Brighton is often on TalkSport, the Ipswich chief executive has done plenty of interviews.

Imposing exam conditions is a bit harsh Jon.

Normally im a tad glass half full and patient but after Steve's recent comments he's minorly frustrated Already.. with movement and the previous of rudkin still hangs over for us, needs to sort his sh1t out but how many times we said that. Difference now it isnt a normal season for us we crucially need to start well obvs, with a statement points deductions looming the earlier we get sh1t done the better but we got a guy who turns down decent offers for no use squad players like iversen (£4/5m from palace) & the rest, in charge. Then goes and says we need to sell to buy.

Brentford were great at getting the DoF to talk. He’d do a debrief after every transfer window. Complete transparency. Was highly received as you can imagine. He’d regularly attend fan Q&A’s too.

No reason not to do one IMO. If we are as serious about fan engagement as the club are continuing to tell fan groups (as they desperately fall behind their own deadlines) maybe we can expect to see more / some of Jon…

He took the job, deal with it.

Pretty obvious we'd need lots of signings and as a newly promoted side with a pending points deduction and trying to appease PSR that was never likely.

Unless he was promised things that clearly haven't been delivered.......

Might be silly to suggest, but there could be a 'confidentiality' reason that he rarely/never does such things?..

Nah I doubt that at all. If he wanted to talk he could do. It’s a choice. Why wouldn’t you want to talk to the fans and celebrate how well you’re doing in a job, talk about the clubs short, mid and long term visions, the club strategy and the plans etc etc. Keeping the fans updated on how your masterplan is all coming together should be communicated transparently…. if there is a plan of course!

There clearly isn’t.

Indeed, but perhaps that's Susan Whelan's responsibility - though?..

She had mentioned about the club's aims etc in the past.

Absolute fluffer piece from Tanner. No mention of the brilliant work Steve Walsh did to identify talents such as Mahrez and Kante who were signed for absolute pittance and brought the club forward no end. Tanner only spoke to people who had nothing but good things to say about Rudkin.

Mad how Rudkin is able to claim the praise for that. Players signed worth hundreds of millions for hundreds of thousands under a regime that predated him. Not a bad situation to walk into.

We have largely worked off the coat tails of that era. But for a strong phase of recruitment in 2018 it's been extremely sketchy and it eventually catches up with you.

If we're going to have Rudkin here on what he did in the early days then we may as well reappoint Pearson or Ranieri, given that's how it now apparently works.

Too many managers realising Rudkin is worse than they ever could imagine, cant shift dead wood to make room for incomings, and spent ages trying to sign a striker that didnt want to join.

Sounds familiar other than the building bridges part.

You can see Rudkin’s failures so far this window. We are so dependant on a manager dictating philosophy that when one leaves, it throws everything into the shit. Compare it to last summer where Enzo came in, worked with Glover and we signed a lot of players that fit the bill very swiftly. Arguably, lower league so perhaps easier to acquire the targets.

This year, we’ve changed manager (not by choice), and now you see the scattergun approach. A DOF should be dictating philosophy and simply places the round pegs in round holes, whether that be players, manager, scouts or even back room staff.

Let’s see how the window ends but the two **** ups are at it again.

So if Rudkin was a big fan of the way Wimbledon used to play for instance you want him to dictate that philosophy to firstly Enzo and secondly too Cooper no matter what ? He would also dictate which players would be signed as long as they fitted the Wimbledon mould ?

God give me strength
