We've 10 players out of contract next summer and the realisation that departures only occur en masse via free transfers is once again highly likely. The hundreds of millions lost and the diminishing squad value is a worry.

 

I look at this squad and if we don't go up I do fear for us. We've very few obvious assets, I'd really hoped we'd have been able to permanently sign a few unproven but high potential young players whom provide that possibility of big value which clubs like ourselves rely on.

 

I also wonder how Maresca maintains a tight unity if and when the players he's clearly marginalised in an attempt to force club and player in to getting rid of them and some of them failing to move on. 

 

I understand the difficulty in moving fringe players or high earners early in the window as many clubs wait and wait to try and get them when the selling club are desperate but this is beggars belief. We've sold Maddison and Barnes early, which I'd hoped was to give us the freedom to negotiate sensibly for the likes of Castagne, Soumare, Ndidi, Praet etc and not ask for unreasonable transfer fees.

 

Several weeks on and we have still only sold George Hirst in addition. The numbers don't lie, look back in the last 4-5 years and you'll see the sheer lack of players we've obtained a fee for (especially for players we no longer want for whatever reason). We are the worst performing club in that regard of those who've been a rival by a country mile. 

 

We also seem averse to recruiting players on free transfers either, so in an era where huge swathes of players are leaving us when their contracts expire for nothing, we don't seem interested or able to fill some of the squad gaps with appropriate players who've left their previous clubs. Actually, I apologise I've forgotten the academy rejects from Aston Villa we collect.

 

Curiously it's players such as Zach Awe whom we were linked with and whom has the potential to be a PL player in future that we don't seem to pursue seriously enough. We're possibly a centre half light and he'd have been a useful addition. Instead we'll keep hold of the likes of Vestergaard who wants out but seemingly won't leave for whatever reason and we'll suffer the lack of desire as he runs his contract down and leaves for nothing come next summer.

 

The frustrating thing with Jannick is, he's one of the few players we have accepted a bid for in the past but he rejected it. I suppose this comes back to Maresca's ploy to exclude players he wants moving on, if they don't then we're left with a bunch of footballers whom we're unlikely to get any meaningful contribution out of, this happened under Rodgers and was our downfall. 

 

The club simply have to do better in this regard, if they have to cut their losses more aggressively then so be it, especially when the alternative is the players pick up their wages any way year on year and leave for nothing at the end of it. Many of which contribute little in that period that could be argued was the benefit of doing so.

 

Over to you Jon, you've 10-15 deals to complete. I predict about 6.

It won't happen until a change of ownership. Rudkin can be essentially treated as a co-owner at this point, there is nothing he can do to lose his job or power so we're stuck with him until the ownership changes. We've clearly learnt absolutely nothing in this regard, we're still demanding exorbitant fees for players its in our interests to have off the books. I've seen it time and time again with us, everybody says "there's X time left" yet we see it year in, year out that we won't get everything we need to do, done.

 

It won't change. The only thing that was different this year was getting Maddison and Barnes sold fairly quickly, for under the odds in order to give us more time to get deals done and less need to demand big money for our wantaways. Yet nearly all of them remain. It isn't an accident, this is our operation, and it's totally flawed.

 

I think what frustrates me is that if we did get these signings made, we genuinely could absolutely piss this league. We have a good coach and a lot of quality in our team - players who are far better than this league in some instances. But we're so imbalanced on the pitch that we're compromising our chances of doing this. It's inexcusable.

 

People can bury their heads in the sand on these sorts of things but players and coaches worth their salt won't stick around if they see such a flawed process. To give an example, say we hit November top of the league, Maresca is offered the Crystal Palace job (19th in the league, Hodgson retired). He might be tilted to go because he already knows we've got Teflon Jon likely to let him down. We don't give ourselves the best chance of success.

Zero sense of urgency to settle the squad after a much needed rebuild following a pathetic couple of years. 

 

Im aware he might be working 25 hours a day 8 days a week, but club doesnt help itself with the communication and optics.

For what it's worth I don't believe he isn't trying, I just think he's got quite the rap sheet at this point. The other factor that has been mentioned on here, but not enough, is that he's working pretty much three jobs. How do you expect to get the best out of somebody with that big a workload?

 

We could probably survive Rudkinomics if we had another head at the club. I notice Leuven are going to pot as well.

There’s a few interviews with DoFs on the training ground guru podcast. It’s doubly depressing because one, they’re light years ahead of ours and secondly we’d never have anybody senior talking about our processes openly now.

 

Total closed shop behind the scenes. It was just about ok when we were good now it’s cowardly. We get sanitised programme notes or a cry baby statement if we’re lucky.

Things really ground to a halt with that Thailand trip and haven’t picked back up.

 

Our manager has been forced to start the first THREE (likely four now) games of the season with a kid on the wing, no creative midfielder and Vestergaard in the center of defence.

 

What’s more, day to day he’s having to handle a training ground with players who don’t want to be here (Castagne, Praet, Vestergaard etc) and players that he doesn’t want to be here (Daka, Soumare, Kristiansen etc).

 

Maresca’s operating with a hand tied behind his back which makes three wins from three even more impressive really.

 

People praised the earlier incomings but even there we hear that we’ve taken Doyle on loan as it was quicker than sorting a permanent. He now looks pretty accomplished and essential to this system (how easily can you find someone adept at playing full back and center half on the left side and with proven track record at this level?) and we’ll either lose out on him at a later date or get taken for a ride on the fee.

 

I’m sure at this point that we’ll end up short on what we need and/or with a load of rushed through loans as it’s not been managed to the point that we’ve ended the window with a core of players that can be here for the long haul and with decent re-sale potential.

Where is the proof of this?

 

I'll say it again, just because someone is sold, doesn't make it a better deal than a loan.

Surely we judge the success or failure of the window when it has closed? No point now. Yes there is a ton of work to do, but that was always going to be the case this summer, mistakes of the past made this a huge task. 

 

So far we've got money in the door and filled roles with players that suit the system. Linked loans all seem to make sense too and looks like we have irons in fires waiting for the parent club to confirm their plans. I think we'll still be left with some running down contracts, but again I'd put that down to mistakes of the past rather than this window specifically.

Of course, we all need to have an interpersonal relationship with the man to see that he’s played a significant hand in the mess that led us to be relegated in one of the most embarrassing fashion’s that the league has ever seen. And by that logic, none of us can ever have an opinion about anything related to the football club.

Big difference having an opinion and speaking as if something is fact. 

1. Rudkin spends too much time on KP Racing and it impacts the club.
2. If Rudkin is being asked to work on KP Racing and it's impacting his ability to do his job, it needs to stop.  

 

Post two, nobody would bat an eyelid and I'm sure 99.9999% are going to agree. Post one on the other hand would probably get you a reply of, "'how do you know what he does for them and whether it impacts his role "

 

Using guess work to slate people, when you have absolutely NO IDEA of the inner workings is just pointless really. We all fall into it, presuming things when we don't know, but stirring up the vitriol is not great.
