Club Finances

For first time club finances appear to have been cleverly managed. Think we would have been fine for PSR purposes whether we went down or stayed up. Barnes sale would have been rushed through to be compliant.

perhaps there was a plan

(ignoring ridiculous wages and transfer fees we couldn’t afford)

I disagree - I just hope they have learnt from their mistakes. Pretty clear there was a period of offering silly contracts - to certain players including length, then the lack of ability to shift said players.

We are in a position where our saleable assets are depleted - Barnes, Maddison, Chilwell, Fofana, KDH long gone and I’m not sure where the next £30m+ player comes from (Fatawu probably).

I think our signings last season were good on the whole and we won the league, this summer despite the unrest I think hasn’t been too bad at all - time will tell (given the financial constraints and lack of attractiveness compared to other clubs).

We must learn… to go back to success off the field we need to buy young, develop and flog - whether that’s buying abroad or through our own youth ranks.

I hope Top and the board realise they have got away with the PSR ruling, hands have been trapped in the till and the same mistakes aren’t made. If we stay up we need to adopt the model above and not look at 28-32 year olds on big long contracts. One or two each window is ok ie Ayew but it shouldn’t be the basis of our recruitment policy.
